Hi, im going to the wsop for the first time this year and have a few questions?

1 How do you manage your bankroll and carry through customs etc. are there limits to what you can bring in?.
2 best places to stay on a budget?
3 do satellites run daily for all tournaments and what are the buy ins?
4 Are the lower buy in tournaments more of a crap shoot with only 4500 chips starting stack. or can there be some solid play and still have a chance?

thanks for any advice

Dave.:dancing:

You might look for an International Pre-Paid Credit Card. Make sure it is International. You load it up with all your money, then use it like normal. Here in the US, many of our normal credit cards are NOT international, and problems can occur. It night be similar for those issued in the UK.

Hi Dave.

What a great start to your time here on CC. Hopefully you'll take one down and give us some great news. Damn I am jealous, I wish I was going with you. Gl in whatever tourneys you play. Perhaps some other CC members will meet you there - would be good to catch up. All the best mate.............:D:D:D

I think he is referring to his poker bankroll and you need cash for that.

No you don't! One might want a wad in his pocket, but not when entering the US. ATM's are everywhere and if it is a branded (visa, MC, AmEx, or the other one) he should have no problem. Yes, there will be fees for getting cash at the casinos from the ATM's there, but there is a safety factor that would probably be well worth those fees for a foreign traveler.

Cash advance fees on Visas are never worth it imo.

He could arrange to wire transfer money to the casino or hotel he is staying at.

But then again, if it's low budget and you aren't entering the country with more than $2,000-3,000... I wouldn't worry about it. Go ahead and carry the cash (distributed in your luggage/person of course) and just don't say anything about it.

That is exactly what I would do.

You can use a credit card for non-cash purchases like food, hotel etc. Take cash for poker, cabs and tips.

If you do look into a pre-paid Visa make sure you understand all of the fees that can be involved. There will be fees for cash withdrawals (in addition to the $5-8 you will pay per transaction from the place you withdraw from) and foreign transaction fees if not in US dollars. There can be activation fees and monthly fees as well.
