Not too long ago there was a thread where a female poker player (Katie Dozier) wrote an open letter to pokerstars for changing the "Sunday Million 9th Anniversary tournament" date to avoid conflict with international women's day, but unfortunately they changed the date to Mothers Day :confused:

In this open letter it also pointed out that Pokerstars had fewer women turn outs and events on Stars. Which include:

"•Fewer women’s tournaments and satellites on PokerStars than there used to be;
•Very limited participation by PokerStars Pros in the $55 Women’s Sunday, including many weeks with one or zero Red Spades playing, and the bounty on these players was removed;
•Perhaps consequently, the field size in the Women’s Sunday tournament has shrunk substantially;
•The Women’s Sunday final table write-up no longer exists;
•The freelance articles for PokerStars Women, which offered up unique perspectives from many different angles, have been cut"

I can't find the thread but here is the open letter:

Then back in February there was a Ladies event which had 22 men in the tournament. Six of whom cashed and one that actually went onto win the tournament

Then on June 6th 2015 the wsop is holding another $10,000 Buy-in MTT Ladies event where women get a 90% discount.

Women playing poker is also usually a popular topic with threads being created by both men and women on things such as:

So are you a fan of Ladies only events? Do you think they shouldn't be allowed for sexist discrimination or other reasons? Or do you like Ladies Events because they attract more women to the game or for other reasons?

I think they can attract more women to the game, which is obv a good thing; same with the Seniors Events attracting more seniors. That's not only a good thing for poker, but also good for health in retirement. Dr. Sanjay Gupta has mentioned card-playing as a way to remain socially engaged as we get older.

Nolan Dolla offered his and the WSOP's take on Ladies Events here, after a man won a Circuit Ladies Event in '09:

At least the guy who won didn't appear to be simply trying to crash the party. I wonder if younger players ever try to crash the Senior's Events?

Ladies events are awesome for introducing new women to playing poker - anyone who protests them is just silly in my opinion.

I like them too for the same reason, the more women in poker the better it will be, who wants to sit at a table with fat balding smelly men only, but what would the women's movement say if there was a men only event.

Bump. - No one brave enough to play devils advocate? Or are we all just in agreement that ladies tournaments should stay and are good for the game?

I definitely think that women only events are a go.
Some women probably feel more comfortable in this type of event because a lot of men have a chauvanistic attitude especially in some cultures where women are still not considered equals.

They still have ol fart only, er Senior events & Australian only events, aka practice games for newbies, so why would women only events be an issue? My guess is if they aren't attracting more women to the game, they will eventually stop offering them.

I think we can all agree that they are discriminatory...but not unfairly so imo, since men are quite the majority in open events.

Women don't need closed events imo (they are quite capable in open events), but I think poker still needs them to help draw more women to the game.
