generally if you arent in the mood its better to just give it a break, i often just watch vids/browse forums when i dont feel like playing or end a session early

If it happens over a long period of time to the point I don't feel like playing I give myself some time off. I'll have a friend go over my play, watch some videos, post some hands, go over some filters, relax and get out the house enjoy myself.
Come back whenever I feel better and get back on it.

I do this even if I'm not tiltiing. Running into the top of everyones range doesn't make me tilt but will subtly affect my game. I will start seeing monsters under the bed and make a few bad folds play a little too conservativly, I'll drop in to auto-pilot more easily as playing becomes more of a choir. Even if I don't notice these affects it's still unlikely I'm playing my A game if I've spent a week running into sets in 4bet pots.

yeah, this.

I dunno, every time I've been running bad I've just played through it and somehow turned that session into a 5 BI win..

but I guess if I'm not playing optimally its best to quit, will do next time.

That's good. For me I generally quit after it's clear that I am tilting and lady luck is against me that day. After a few bad beats in a row is usually when I call it a day.

lol pointless thread bump

always play through it, happened today.. first losing session for about a week and a bit..

had to fold AA/KK on the river about 6+ times and thats most of my profit..

lost a flip and some donk 3 bet my UTG raise with A9o, called my 4 bet.. then called my jam on the flop with a worse A high and got a runner runner flush :|

not complaing though, its the weekend, it happens.

Sometimes, I ask myself this question too. I don't know if the time that I spend worth the money that I win. Well, I decided to only play 3x times per week now, I think that playing everyday was only stressing me out.

Seeing as you [campbell] always like to quote people and say "this." i'm going to do the same.

This.

doesn't everyone do that on forums though? I don't see what you're point was for that but ok..

and thats not the point, I know what swings are.

my question was, if you aren't doing well but are playing fine, and the games are still soft..

is it worth playing through the variance, or just give up on the day?

If you think your swing causes you to not play your a-game, don't play. If it doesnt affect you and you're not tilting then play

It is sometimes good to take a break if you're not really focused or confident but the thread title suggests something more—there is no "it" to play through. Downswings are not an entity that you can play through or that have a beginning and an end. Knowing this may actually help :)
