Thankyou to CC for the last 7 months, Here is my first milestone post!
Well I thought I would do something abit different for my 1k post and post a review of CC. This post will include how CC has improved me as a player, some of the great points about this awesome forum and also ways in which we can look to improve in the near future and also long term.
I joined Cardschat back on 3rd July 2008; I was actually working at the time in an office doing some IT stuff for a company. I was on the computer at the time and needed help with my poker so I simply put in poker forum into Google and hey presto, I liked the look of cardschat had a quick browse then insta joined, and haven’t looked back in 7 months.
I was playing $5 SNG's on betfair at the time with a roll of $80 (obviously had no BRM skills) but I didn’t even know BRM existed. I started looking around the forum and got talking to KD and he set me up with some threads to look at. I browsed around and watched the videos available and really studied hard but was unsure of what games I wanted to play so I had abit of confusion about SNG or cash. However University was then around the corner and poker sort of took a back seat for a month, I think it was around November time.
I started posting regularly around December time and really got stuck in, posting, watching and studying on CC as much as I could. I then decided I would become a micro grinder on my roll of ~$250 and since around then I have grinded up through 10nl and am currently sitting on ~$950 at 25nl. I am hopefully looking to move up to 50NL by the end of the month or next month as I am running at ~5BB/100 at 25NL but we shall see.
One of the main aspects of CC which I really like is that every single member is so friendly and helpful. I never see any arguments or hate threads on the forum and everybody seems to be getting on very well. We have a very good community which amongst it has some very talented players.
I really enjoy reading discussions between Belgo,FP and Zach as these are the guys who are into the math side of poker a lot and really give a full technical answer to problems. They have a great knowledge about the game and I have learnt alot from them. Then there is the higher stakes crowd which includes chuck,chris_tc, BW, Jagsti, Feitr,Combu, Vanq, Icemonkey and Switch. These guys I have learnt alot more off since moving to 25NL through the Hand analysis section of CC. This is where another very talented member of CC comes into play in C9, he spends alot of time in there and provides some excellent feedback which I have learnt alot from even though its not posted on my hand.
One member in particular who has helped me out alot and tbh I kind of class him as my "coach" now because he has helped me so much is Jagsti (Jay). We have worked together since the beginning of the year and through sweat sessions I have been able to develop my game so much thanks to him. Jay is a great teacher and explains things in a very good way, my success at the micros has alot to do with him and I hope we can continue to work together in the future. I also hope he runs well and makes it turning pro next year if all goes to plan. I would encourage him to also offer coaching as he is very good at it and other members here would benefit so much from his coaching ability. Thanks for all your hard work Jay.
Another group I have learnt alot from are the micro grinders such as shrog mainly. We have had some good sessions together recently and really motivate each other to keep improving and grinding as much as we can. I really hope shrog runs good and moves up to 25NL in the near future but I know he has alot of other things on his schedule with his music teaching. Also some other good and upcoming players which are heavily involved in the micro grinders thread are lemly, enty, sindri, stu_unga, pantin, DG and most recently peelio. I hope these guys continue to work hard and we can all be moving up stakes together and also provide some healthy competition for eachother.
I really enjoy cardschat and must spend hours and hours on here everyday, it has completely changed me as a player for the good and I hope the regs can help me out making me turn from an average player into a good player.
However I really think that CC as a forum needs to keep improving and not be content with how good it is now. Keep making changes and improvements so that regs do not get bored of the forum, because if it stays the same for a long period of time people can get bored of something, even if my room is the same I change it around every so often so I don't get bored of it.
I am also going to make some suggestions for improvements for the forum for the future, people may look at these and think I am off my tree and need shooting but others may agree and see these as a good suggestion to make this a better place for the future.
Firstly I think that CC could do with a de clutter and a tidy up. Maybe de cluttering the sub forums of old and unwanted threads so that pages load quicker etc. Also renaming some sections into stakes such as in the hand analysis or general chat. This will make better use of the micro stakes thread which is going well at the moment and maybe I would encourage the higher stakes guys to get one up and running. If we also promote this thread more people would get involved and probably have more determination to grind up to 200nl. Another part which could be de cluttered is the golden archive thread, it needs to be more promoted and cut down to really good quality posts maybe a maximum of 20. Only really high standard posts should be allocated into this section and it should be a privilege to have a post in this thread, similar to the anthology on that other site forgot what its called.
Another improvement which I feel CC could make is to create a coaching section. I know a few members such as BW and Ice have offered their services to other members but I feel if we had a proper section this would be promoted more and more likely to be a successful part of the forum. Maybe even members will make coaching videos to help others out so they can grow up the limits whether they are grinding cash or MTTs as I am sure rex would be able to help in that region as he is a very successful MTT player. I for one would benefit so much from a coaching section, this would attract better players from higher stakes as they would be able to show off their skills and also help others out. This would be like combining part of 2+2 and DC which are two good sites but don’t have the same content on a single site and we would be a great advantage if we could do this. This would be brilliant in introducing higher stakes players, which we need more of also but in a years time I feel a lot will be at the higher stakes IMO.
Also a section or just even a sub section on “other” forms of poker. Most play the standard No limit/Limit hold em. However just a sub section of alternative such as omaha, razz, horse, stud etc could benefit a lot of members and I know Switch is into Omaha so maybe they could get some strategy going on in there. Just a thought for the other areas of poker which in turn could make them grow a lot. I don’t know if they are soft but maybe people don’t understand the strategy in depth as much as they do in holdem so there could be a lot of fish. But that’s just an assumption so take it with a pinch of salt.
A smaller change to CC would be to just modernise it up a bit by changing the graphical interface and modernising the layout abit more. I think this would give a better feel around the site and be more user friendly.
That’s just a few ideas to improve and CC cant afford to lose all the fantastic regs we have hear so maybe if they came up with some ideas to improve these would need to be implemented to keep them happy. I for one have learnt a lot from these guys and are the heart of the forum.
I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everybody at this fantastic place and really do enjoy spending many happy hours a day here. I have made fantastic progress due to this fantastic forum, however we must not be content and drive to be the best poker forum around with the best quality of posts and players on here. I hope you have enjoyed this post and thankyou to all the mods here who do such a fantastic job around the forum and also to nick for all his hard work. I look forward to a lot more happy hours and posts in the future and once again thankyou.
