In the wake of settling his $12 million WSOP row, champion Jamie Gold accepts he 'screwed up'

That man, 2007 world series of poker main Event champion Jamie Gold has admitted that he didn't handle his big win as well as he should have done.
Despite scooping the record $12 million first place prize, Gold has struggled to find acceptance at the top level of the game, in stark contrast to previous winner Australian Joe Hachem.
Gold, who had half of his winnings frozen in a legal wrangle with associate Bruce Crispin Leyser, has now commented on the situation, having previously been unable to, due to legal technicalities.
In an exclusive video statement to RawVegas.tv, Gold admits that he did not handle his history-making victory and resulting lawsuit with Leyser well and that he now hopes to be a "great ambassador for the game of poker."
While in Las Vegas for the NBC National Heads-Up Championship in, Gold spoke to the newly launched online entertainment channel.
"I accept the fact that I did not handle the whole World Series of Poker victory thing very well. I really screwed some things up", Gold admits in the video.
On the lawsuit filed by Leyser for half of Gold's $12 million winnings, Gold says, "I’ll be the first to admit that the lawsuit could have been handled better by both of us.”
Hoping to put the past seven months behind him, Gold says he is now ready to step up as an ambassador for the game.
"I won the biggest money prize in sports history. It is now my responsibility to be a great ambassador for the game of poker."

I guess, regardless of his agenda or reasoning for doing it, admitting it is really the first step he needed to take. I think this is a good thing (even if he isn't 100% sincere). Now let's see what he does in the NHUC and wsop.

The other guy is a personal friend of Jamie's by the way. Notice how he looks at the flop, then "subtly" shakes his head at him. What's that supposed to mean? Looks like ugly collusion to me. If he wants to be an ambassador for this game, he has a ways to go.

Well, the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.

In that article, I didn't see what he was admitting he did wrong.

Was he admitting that he should not have promised winnings. Should he not have promised as many winnings. Should he have paid the winnings without question. Too many things went wrong in his situation to be glossed over with a blanket statement "Oops, I will do better by being a ambassador for poker."

I can think of many players way more qualified that I would listen to before Gold. D Brunson comes to mind as #1.

i don't really think is matters what he did! he won! beat everyone else now thier all pissed about it! just give him his money take the loss and leave him alone! he did nothing but beat everyone else! like all the other players before him!

I did. The head shake sure looks like he's telling his friend to go away!! Collusion a definate possibility there!

I'm sorry, but everytime Jamie Gold opens his mouth, my skin crawls. The guy is a creep in the 1st degree. And that head shake (and look) was a complete (and obvious) attempt to signal to his friend. I don't care what he says. He's still a jerk.

What a difference a year makes, I'd prefer to watch 2005's runner up to 2006's winner.

He's a jerk-off who had the most incredible streak of luck I've ever seen. Sure, he won. With that luck, any of us could've one. He's no ambassadpr to any game I'm familiar with.

um if i were that big of a chipleader i would just fold any pot a close friend of mine is in if we are down to like 6 or whatever. he's an idiot for letting it get that close to collusion.

That's great that he admits his faults....WTF????? Any man admits his faults, let's not congratulate him for that. I don't like the guy, he plays the game w/o any respect for it i think. He shouldn't be involved in any of the High Stakes games where all the respected people play....well most of them are highly respected. It doesn't matter if you have the $$$ or not for those kind of events, you should have to have a respectful resume & Jamie "thedisrespectfuldouche" Gold shouldn't be there because of his disrespect for the game.

Anyone who calls a bet with 45 off suit and gets 367 on the flop has incredible luck.

I think he played relatively well. Blatantly calling him an asshole was possibly an overstatement and I apologize. I do not know Mr. Gold personally, but I'M SURE HE'S A REAL SWELL GUY.

Jamie Gold is a bigger fluke than Moneymaker.........

AmbASSador is right..... Does he think he got any respect at the Heads Up Championship? I mean they pretty much have to invite the guy cause he got LUCKY and won the WSOP.
Looked like collusion to me then, looks like collusion to me now.....his friend was just to dense to figure out the signal.........

I have to say I agree with most everyone here that Jamie's not only a lucky ass, but also just a plain ass. Last year's WSOP was the least enjoyable to watch in recent memory, between his foolishness and the number of people who kept advancing, despite terrible play. It was very frustrating to see donkeys getting paid off over and over again, while pros were getting knocked out left and right after making the right moves.
Collusion is something that I wouldn't put past Jamie and after seeing the film, I'm even more convinced.

It could have been worse. That used car salesman with the turned up visor that kept calling all-ins with ace-X os could have won.

You mean Dmitri Nobles? Possibly eveb a bigger ass than Gold. He's strictly a product of the worst of online poker, where stupidity gets rewarded, short-term, and is politely called AGGRESSION.
