Well there was a discussion between myself and another poster (who doubted me, and has now learned, never doubt me, I'm never wrong.........lol, ok jk....maybe) about Ivey taking $15-$16 million from a billionaire named Andy Beal. Anyways, it was about a year ago, and I'm guessing people in this forum have heard the story already, but for those of you that havn't heard about the story because they're new to the poker scene or ect, ect, here it is. It is an amazing story and if someone really thinks about the money that's on the table, they'll truly understand how much pressure was on Ivey and how good he was playing during this stretch at the table to win that much.

Andy Beal Versus the Corporation - 'Finished'
What an odyssey. Over the last three plus weeks, the story of a billionaire, and his fascination with poker has enthralled the poker world. Last night at Wynn card room, this story came to an end....at least for now.

Andy Beal got back in his plane, and flew back to Dallas after a three-day match with Phil Ivey that left Beal down some 16 million dollars. The stakes were raised yesterday, and the players played at the originally agreed upon $50,000/$100,000 limits. Ivey went on a massive heater, and won back the Corp's original stake they had lost in prior sessions. A $10 million swing...in one day. The previous two days had seen Ivey up about six and a half million dollars. Something tells
me there will be some serious 'Corporate' parties around Las Vegas over the next two days. Reserve your tables at Tao, or Light now.

I'm not really sure what is left for Phil Ivey to accomplish in the poker world. As if it wasn't completely cemented prior to this, I think its safe to say Phil is playing the best poker of anyone on the planet right now. I guess Ivey has to start working on taking everyone's money, as their isn't much left to accomplish in the way of highly publicized cash games, or tournaments

Beal's departure from poker may be permanent, or it may be temporary. He reportedly left Wynn last night, and said that he was through with poker. He had announced this after the first session, but it was quickly learned that he was not done with poker, as he was back at Wynn the next morning. I'm going to guess that he won't be back at Wynn tomorrow, but I'm not convinced we've seen the last of Andy Beal.

Men like Beal are driven by challenges. The story of Beal's play over the last few weeks reminds me of the story of another billionaire. Howard Hughes became obsessed with golf for a period of time in his twenties. Hughes got to the point that he beat nearly everyone at his club, the Wilshire Country Club. When a match with legend Bobby Jones became available, Hughes jumped at the chance. After weeks of preparation by Hughes, Jones beat Hughes handily. Legend has it Hughes left his clubs next to the 18th green after the match, and never played golf again. Will that be the fate of Andy Beal? He has played the best in the world, and held his own, until he ran into the 'Phil Ivey experience'. Clearly, Beal can play, and it would be a shame if he left his lucky card marker at Wynn Las Vegas yesterday, never to return.

Here's the original article if someone would rather read from the source.

This book tells the full story. It's a fascinating read.

Hot Estelle, I concede, you are right. I was not aware of Ivey playing Beal. I had just finished said book, which if you have the chance, read it. It's a great book.

Also, thanks for posting the article. (And for not calling me out directly...LOL) I hope to see you soon on the tables.

AND I WILL NEVER DOUBT YOU AGAIN!!

Thanks for the IVEY update

Beal is a great HU player. BUT, he has one advantage over his opponents, he is playing much more within his bankroll than the Corporation did. I don't know how to quantify this advantage, it may only play a small role. But I do believe it is a factor.

This is a great story and a good read!

Texas Dolly and I believe, Matusow, briefly converse about the game, in an earlier episode of "Poker After Dark", on how Ivey spent something like eleven straight hours saving their asses after The Corporation was down millions of dollars to Beal.

If Ivey you know just wants to send a million or even 500k of that my way we will be best buds forever lol. I find it interesting how people can loose so much money in a short amount of time. If I lose $50 I would be sweating it...I am a very conservative player and usually play only when I have the nuts LIVE. Online is a whole new ballgame. Online losing $50 is no big deal, go to the lower limit tables and you get that back in no time, I just find it interesting how you loose $16 mill... ??

Very long story in mini-format:

Billionaire Andy Beal wanted to play the highest stakes limit that anyone would play him for. No pro had enough of a bankroll to take him on, so instead a group of the best live players came together and "bundled" parts of their bankroll into enough to sit down and play him with. Doyle Brunson, Ted Forrester, Jennifer Harman, Howard Lederer, etc., all took turns playing him.

What's fascinating is that he actually came out extremely well in these encounters, and had it not been for Ivey's last session he would have been up. If memory serves, he did beat Ivey the first time they played, though.

His match against Ivey is covered in the book. It did not happen recently.
