I was watching HSP for the 1,000th time and it was the episode where Gabe Kaplin played and Daniel Negreanu took his spot in the commentary booth and Gabe said something along the lines of "I'd be the best in a game where we could all see the hole cards" as a joke and it put a new game in my head so here it goes...

Never tried to play it so don't know how it would play out but here are the rules
"Face up Holdem"
Each player is dealt their cards face (down) none of the players are aloud to look at their cards.

The first player to act (UTG) first has two decisions, 1.) to look at his/her cards, if the player looks at his/her cards this player must then put their cards face up so everyone can see...

2.) Player can decide not to look at his/her cards (I.E play it in the dark) this player does not have to show to the rest of the table.

After the player decides to look or not he/she can decide fold call raise like in a normal game..

If a player decides not to look he/she can not look till its his/her action again

so example I'm UTG and I decide not to look and raise everone folds except the BB who calls in the dark also,

The flop comes out and the BB bets (still in the dark) I can now decide to look and show or to continue in the dark.

Other example I'm UTG I again decide not to look I raise folds to the BB who re raises in the dark. I can decide to look and show or to keep playing in the dark.

Position an already huge advantage will become an even bigger edge in this game.

All rights to this game belong to me I created it so if ya steal it I'll sue you =) lol

Interesting I suppose, would become a game of blind bluffing i suppose. Say someone looks and turns up their cards and have AK so raise, the next person does not and reraises or calls. Flop comes 678o for example. What would the AK do essentially because they didn't hit and obv can't put the opponent on a hand being blind, so do they check or raise knowing their opponent (will if was me) would most likely put in a raise or reraise because there is a chance they have either a 678 or something connecting with it giving them a good chance to win the hand? Becomes a situation where it would be more of a gamble i guess.

Question, can you look at only one card? Also how you have indicated could open it up to someone who peeks at the cards and if not noticed has that advantage (ie cheating according to the rules you outlined) they know what their cards are when no one else does.

Just some of my thoughts, perhaps a better game would be an omaha in a similar fashion whereby two of the 4 cards are turned up, I think this would make for an interesting game as there is still a skill involved because only you know all of your cards. Perhaps we can join ideas and make lots of money :D haha

I thought about only being able to look at one card and showing it, or even looking at both cards but only forced to show one card. and I thought about the way you suggested for Omaha too..

And also considered people being able to cheat it be easier for online play but I;m sure there would end up being ways to prevent it.

We tried this for about 10 hands last night It was crazy. The weaker players loved it. The stronger player hated the idea. But all commented it would teach you to play position.

Seems like it would be a fun game to play with friends but not something I would want to bet a lot of money on.

Sounds like fun. Have you ever played Hold'em at a casino, where it is set up to be like a table game (as blackjack is)? You only have to beat the dealer and I thought it was odd that a casino would offer a game you can more likely win at more than even blackjack!

I would not place a pre bet on making trips, as many would every hand (the dealer would always point this out when you did hit trips: "See? You should have bet on trips!". Yeah, right!). Oh, the odds if you hit are great, but not in the long run when they lose most times. So, I would wait until I hit trips, then start counting the number of hands played from there. Then I would place a bet on making trips when due again. I still only made a little profit, and not as much as just playing a solid game throughout.

So I made quite a killing knowing the odds and what is due within xx number of hands, however; the pit boss started getting really interested in my winning, lol. I left because I was certain it was obvious to them I knew the game well enough to make a constant profit. They tend to do that when you start off with $20.00 and soon end up with over $200.00.

Sounds like fun. However, I guess it's quite explotable. When playing dark vs dark in position you can just make an easy calldown everytime on the river after seeing your cards since it's a game of blind bluffing and guts to gamble.

Neat idea.. but would need to be tweaked IMO.

It reminds me of Annette Obrestad's win in that live game where she played with her hands face down the entire tournament.

I'd think it have some strategy in it and some skill, people can see your cards in Chinese poker (open face) however the luck factor probably be a lot higher lol.

I once saw a game of faceup poker where everyone had their cards stuck to their forehead so that everyone could see what everyone else had but not their own cards. Bit of a crazy game, but the players appeared to enjoy it.
