Any one else have this problem?

On a pretty regular basis my wireless signal will suddenly drop and it pretty much happens right when I commit a huge chunk of my stack!!! By the time I get back on my money is gone and it is a dozen hands down he road.

I am not much of a computer guy. I unplug my modem and router and turn off my computer and start the whole thing up again and sometimes this helps but the problem just resurfaces again in a couple of days. Is there any kind of additional equipment I can use to strengthen the signal and put a stop to these drops?

Try to get your PC fairly close to the router, preferably without any walls or other obstructions in the way.

So, wireless sucks unless I keep my computer close enough to the router so that I could and probably should just hardwire it?

I love technology.

Thank you for taking the time to clue me in and good luck on the felt!

Get a wireless router that accepts a range extender. I have Airport Extreme with an Airport Express extending the range of the router to the second floor; it works great.

Given your exact description (that this happens a couple of days afetr a reboot), why not reboot once a day and see if that helps.

A few years ago (with an older computer) the computer would freeze up at random after being on for several days. I started rebooting it every morning and I didn't have it freeze up on me again until I eventually repalced it.

We use wireless for the laptop, but I wouldn't use wireless for a desktop if I could avoid it, because wired feels much more secure. All "risky" things like online banking are done on the desktop.

There are several brands of extenders. here is one from Linksys: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124037

good luck with your signal.

Like the guy above mentions. If there is a walmart near you. They sell Linksys wireless routers. The best one they have will cost you around $70. It is worth it though. I bought my parents one and now when i visit them I can be on my laptop outside in the back yard. Not what I bought it for though, they just needed a better one. Check it out though. I pay $20 a month for AT&T wireless as well as ethernet. It works great. No problems. In the summer I take the laptop out onto the back deck and play poker and cook out. Man I can't wait for summer again..lol. $20 a month you can't beat it.
