re: Poker & Is it possible to live poker nowadays? Is it worth investing in the dream?
Honestly, I think it's possible. Or at the very least I think it's possible to make a substantial profit on the side while keeping a side job. Besides your general ability to play, it depends a lot on how serious you take it. Yes, these days there are many more regs than there were in the past. There's a lot more information out there to access and the game is a lot more popular, therefore it's natural players will be better. That being said, at the lowest limits (especially in live poker) you will find players who are inexperienced, only play recreationally or simply are just not as good. These are the players you will profit mostly off of. I think it's a matter of having a good bankroll management, studying the game more than your average recreational player and being able to build up discipline that will give you an edge. As terrible as it sounds, there will always be gamblers, bad players and people who want to play for fun who will always be loose and willing to throw money in the pot. If you can learn to take advantage of these players, even if you don't play as often as pros, you will manage to make a profit in the long run.
