So after 5 months or so of playing poker my poker vocabulary has started creeping into my everyday vocabulary. I often get quizzical looks from friends when I choose very odds ways to phrase things.

I've started describing bad things as bad beats. On a test I did grade bounadries were ridiculous, I got like 78% and got a C (usually 80% for an A, 60% for a C) and when i saw them I called it a cooler. If asked to say why one material is used over another I put +ev without even thinking about it.

I'm not the only one to suffer from this am I?

yes.

When you start studying and learning poker, the mindset needed to actually integrate these concepts and apply them is totally foreign to 99.999% of most people. It changes your perception of the world, as well.

It is not normal to avoid being results oriented and to just assess the information at hand and understand that there are a "range" of possible outcomes. Criticizing someone's thought process when they are proven correct is something no one really gets, either.

When something goes really wrong, I just sigh and say, "Standard."

"Well-played, sir," is one that most people can understand.

Poker has REALLY changed the way I watch sports. Of course, sports is totally results oriented but I look at things as being +EV or -EV longterm.

How about something going impossibly right (like sprinting for a bus and catching it in stride) and you shout "I FLOPPED THE NUTS!!"... freaks some people out

Well I'm much happier now I know it's not just me going crazy and reffering to random things with poker words lol.

If you go around saying, "That's so sick!" a lot, people will think you're really weird.

Actually where I live that's just a really chavvy word so I have to really try and refrain from saying that one lol

You've done it there without even realizing it ;)

I don't even know what chavvy is but it sounds unpleasant.

A few have crept into my vocabulary - I find myself "shipping" money to someone instead of transferring it into their account, for example.
