If you sign up to a $200 guarenteed tourney that also has late registration and theres only 9 people starting what happens if you eliminate everyone? Do you sit there and wait untill late registration is over? Do you then have to play heads up with the next person to join? Kind of wondering what happens

Nope. The tournament is over. Whoever gets eliminated 2nd and 3rd get their rewards and you get the 1st prize. People could join and prolongue the game if you havent finished it yet, but once its just you remaining the tournament is over. You dont have to wait anything.

generally the longer you are on the bubble and the record closed, it's rare to see a tournament that has open registration if already in payment

Mostly tournaments have also minimum registrants so if doesnt meet at all, the tourney closes.

Regarding your query above yes. The play continues until the late registration closes. But I think you will be put to a table and waits till reasonable number of people join in and not heads up since many will join at that moment. Then the action resumes.

Old question that never gets a good answer. Much as we would love to win it in one great shove-in on the first hand, it won't work that way. Late registration also guarantees that one can get in late, or re-enter for a fixed period of time.

As I gaze thru the late registration games I look for opportunities just like the one you hope you are describing. If I saw a guarantee, with only 1 person sitting there, even if it were the last second, I would enter figuring that I outlasted all those whose busted out before me, and 2nd place money was available. I am sure I am not alone in figuring that out, and there are many late registration junkies who look for that same situation.

So while the notion is intriguing, the reality is that at best, if you win that shove fest first hand and have to sit there with that big stack, you will have to sit there with that big stack till late registration is over.

I never thought about it before
but I would go with what 2000 say's.
How could you get to the money with regs still open and start payoffs.
But I would think that as people got bumped pays would be held until late regs is over. Just incase someone did regs at last min.

is very interesting all that is said, never ask me something.
I guess more people speculating too Late to register, but surely there will be rules about that is that if you suddenly get only 2 in the tournament but this could open Late registration is no longer possible to sign up.
Well there must be something established rooms for those rare situations and avoid problems

In most of the tourneys, the pays are only for the 2 or 3%. Not sure about the structure at 888, but on PS that is about it.

If you eliminate everyone you are the winner! 1st place! No, it ends right there.

When you are on ITM the registration is closed.

if the tournament comes to the money during the late registration, registration is going to be closed and not possible

Definitely ends. Had a satellite last month where in the first 5 mins we went from 15 or so, down to 2 (2 tickets available) and there was still 55 mins of late reg, but we both got the "Congratulations" announcement and the tournament was over. It would make zero sense to make you sit and wait because for one, how long do they expect you to sit with no players? Two, what happens with the blinds? Do they pause or continue to rise every 3/5/10 mins or w/e? Three, it would be a huge disadvantage for a late reg'er since your stack is going to crush a starting stack.

If the tournament has started and there is only one person left then the tournament ends regardless of the late registration. However, it is very rare that no one will join the table with 2-3 people left knowing that they will be joining in at 2nd or 3rd place and probably already in the money. I've heard people talk about late registration as a strategy....often joining 30-45 minutes late knowing that people have already dropped out and the blinds are still somewhat small.
