Good Afternoon Cardschat

I have noticed a trend becoming ever more popular at showdown in the past 6 months and i wanted to ask other players what your experiences are?

The trend is - more and more players that i have either gone to showdown against or have seen showing their cards have shown me an increase in suited connectors ranging from 67 up to AK ...

what do you think? Is this something you have noticed or maybe its just me?

Regards

I think with more people using ranges and math to play poker it's easier to get into a pot with suited connectors especially in late position for cheap. They are easy to let go if you miss the flop and have huge draw possibilities. Not to mention if you call a raise with a small suited connector and hit 3 of a kind on the flop your hand is really well disguised.

I have noticed this, actually. I myself like mixing it up with at least mid-range suited connectors, mostly for the reasons mentioned above by honeybuns666. I've never been very well suited to the math side of things, and I'm still working on my working knowledge of ranges, but I've always thought suited connectors have a lot of potential, and are actually fairly well suited (ha ha) to my playing style.

I actually like smaller suited connectors instead of 9-10 or higher. I feel like you have a lot better chance to have live cards. You can easily be dominated by Ax with higher suited connectors.

I have noticed this the past couple of weeks also. It had probably been going on longer than that but I really took notice this past couple of weeks and have been incorporating it into my play. Both playing them more and considering that people may have them more. It does seem to happen more in later positions from what I have seen.

I have not notice any increase. Suited connectors was and is always a nice hand to see flop if the price is ok. They flop good, you can get straight, flush, and trips and win big pots while lose little. When the table is tight and everyone playing AK, AQ, AJ, KQ, KJ its good to throw some suited connectors to mix things and exploit the tight ones.

I have seen a increase from when i played yrs ago aswell.. if you can get in late and cheap it is worth a shot depending on position and chips etc.. but than if you do hit middle pair on the flop.. makes the next decision little bit harder..

I think suited connectors is dangerous. I rarely play them and when I do it is late and the price is cheap.

Reason I say they are dangerous is because I have seen people play them very aggressivly.

Example last night during a cash game I had ac ts and the flop was xc xc xc. Villian just shove all in so I called. He had 5c 6c and the turn was a xc.

A few days before that similar situation. Jh qh

Flop was 7h 9h 8h and villian shoves all in. He had 5h 6h. Turn was 10h and river was crap.

Hi Glenn!
The smaller the hole between the two cards, the stronger the connectors are!

But not every time !!!

Are you playing MTT or cash table? See a lot more in cash, with MTT seems to be less.

Regarding Stats, you should be dealt suited connectors every 4th hand or 25%.
I get them almost every hand on 888 and ACR, just another trick to make ppl play more...

It's nothing new. Suited connectors are one of the best hands in no-limit games.

I haven't noticed an increase either. Again its part of the strategy implemented by many. I like mixing it up and will use them depending on the situation. Then again I like any 2 if the situation warrants it :)

I have also noticed this tendency. I always play such connectors but I cannot explain the increase.

I also like them if i can see pot for cheap. They have good postflop potential and are easy to fold if you do not hit.

These things are happening periodically. I am not witnesing only cases with connectors but cases with flushes that the fifth flush card does not appear or foul houses that are not completed, many cases together periodically. It is a mathematical phenomenon!

I thought they had been going out of fashion again,
Negreanu popularized small suited connectors 10 years ago,
but they became less profitable as the game changed to more aggressive betting.

Yes, Ive definitely noticed an increase. Not sure why, other than they look pretty. If the price is right and the villains (two or three would be good for proper pot odds) have big enough stacks and I'm in position I will play them. The odds of making a straight or flush draw are pretty good, but that's only a draw. You still have to complete the flush or straight to win using your cards. And you have to complete the higher straight or the higher flush. That's where your position and the story you're telling come into play, cuz most of the time you're not going to win the hand with your cards.

Not infrequently these folks tend to make a big failed bluff bet on the river after they miss completing the straight/flush draw.

I think in this part is the story of equity. I like playing with suited connectors, but not always. Obviously, before getting into such a hand, you have to analyze the profile of the villain. Playing this type of hand against very aggressive players can be dangerous.

I love suited connectors and have for years,if im let to limp in and look at the flop i will.If you flop an open ended str8 you have up to 15 outs unless the board pairs up you should have the winner unless whatever your suited connectors are like 56,if a 5 or a 6 hits turn or river you risk losing to a higher str8.
