...and which do you prefer? Why? Did you start live or did you start online?

play live poker not have difference , after all depends on your way to practice the game in general
I prefer online because , my preference is related to buyn where I can play with little money, my start in poker was online, so I have this preference.

Aren't there any adjustments that you need to make to your play however?

they can be the same, or two completely different games...depending on where and what you play

1. online you will get way way way more hands per hour
2. online people will tend to be much looser in most regards because of digital factor (not having real money in front of you)
3. physical tells in live poker, almost no tells in online
4. you need to know the rules live, otherwise you can make terrible and costly mistakes

these are some of the differences that may influence the games, there are many more, adjustments depends on what you are facing....but for giggles maybe you play more tight aggressive live, and keep as calm as possible so as to not give up tells, also try not to get bored on how slow the play is - cant multi-table live

I think people are more careful tighter in live tourneys especially if there are no rebuys or limited rebuys in the initial phase as they have invested a lot already getting there etc. Much easier online just to go to another tourney if you bust out.

I've played my first live tournament last Saturday.

Number of hands are very much lower, and that changes the whole strategy of tight/loose playing.

Also, the physical expressions that you can read your opponents, or tell a lot about you too.

Consider these 2 when playing. That was what took me out on the tournament.

You can read people better playing live. Online there is more guessing of what the other people have

It's a lot more difficult to get a read online than it is in a live game. Not as many tells.

I feel there is a world of difference between live poker and online poker. In live poker you can watch your opponent and try to pick up reads off them. Online poker the best you can do is try to read the way people bet.I like live poker better if I have the choice, but it's much easier to get a game going online.:D:D

I've only play live poker with friends, with no pressure at all but I think the biggest diference between the two options is to try to hide/pick up reads IMO

I have confidence issues regarding program random number generators. Don't get me wrong, I still play a fair amount of online poker but it's always in the back of my mind.

The main difference for me is I get to see more hands online vs. live. So I feel that I get better at the game by getting to see so many different spots.

I prefer live to online because the games are generally softer. The live 300NL game plays like 10NL online sometimes 50NL online. So I use the online games to learn, and live games to make money.

In a live game success it depends far more on psychology than in the online game. It is much easier to read your opponent when he's sitting in front of you. I prefer to play online only for convenience. I do not need to go anywhere to play. I choose to play a comfortable structure for me. And I meet with poker whenever I want.

I consider you to be a good player, and I it would be cool if you could expand on that comment. Fundamentally, how does seeing more hands per hour help if you are a losing player at the game (I understand the winning or breakeven player side)? Not calling you out; just trying to learn from you if you want to share :)

Used to be live almost exclusively, now on-line almost exclusively. After playing on-line only for a while where you can play multiple tables and see so many more hands per hour, how do you go back to live where it can move so slow? Unless it's deeper in a tournament or near a money bubble I struggle to maintain patience.

It's chilling playing from home or anywhere else with your mobilephone. Noone of the other players from your table is able to see how nervous, angry, happy, and confident you are, i mean mimics and so on. That is the good thing about online poker. playing in a casino for example is good for those, how play a role like being an actor.. bluffing people out, talking much, pretending weekness..there are good and bad thing on both sides.

When you play live poker, you have much more information about your opponent than in online poker cause he is sitting right next to you. You can read their body language and their eyes (if they arent wearing sunglasses)
