lol, poker isn't for you if you are worried about being down $300.

You get what you put into poker. Do you study and try to improve your game? If you're not, you'll never beat the game. The players are too good. The casual poker players that just play on the weekends, never read books, or studies HH's will never be a winner over the long run.

Post some hands, let us know what areas you need to work on, ect. It's the only way you will get any better.

How much work (NOT PLAYING) do you put into your game? Trying to learn by playing is the expensive way to do it. Study, read, analyze your past mistakes and work on making incremental improvements and you'll get there. As for being down $300 or whatever once you get it figured out you can easily male that back and a lot more.

Or yeah what TPC said!

Unequivocally, for no reason at all, do not watch any televised high stakes ring play or major tournaments. Chances are you will learn the game the wrong and the hard way if you try to report the actions and styles from the various edited scenes in your standard daily contests.

First off, and not to brag at all, notice the post count differences between OP (doitagainchip) and me. Perhaps getting heavily involved in this forum has helped me survive the tough times.

I am going thru the exact feelings he is. I've got more than 5 years online. This seems to be the most crushing of my slumps, but I have faith, and the ability to slow down during this slump.

Since I have taken much much much more money out of online poker than I ever deposited, and still have a meager bankroll almost everywhere I have ever had a bankroll, I am only discouraged that I don't have a huge bankroll everywhere.

It will change. I have faith that the 'Nature abhors a Vacuum' principle is sound and applies to statistical variance, and I will start hitting those little sets that have gone missing for the better part of a year.;)

Thinking like this gets you nowhere.

Im a losing player at this point too. Im down like a $700 though. (I will say that I never deposited). But I have absolutely nothing but confidence that I will be crushing High stakes in 10 yrs. Humble goals.

I do everything I can to get better. Just like WVHillbilly said. And I am getting better. ALOT Better. But still, Im running a total of $300 -EV from June and July. Nothing but faith in August.

I guess what Im trying to say is... You got to find some confidence. If you feel like youll never win then your not doing enough to get better. If you were, you would be getting better, and that in itself would build confidence.

its all about ur perspective bro, you can look at ur situation as being down and making absolutely nothing from poker.. or you can look at it as an investment into your poker game.. but ultimately yourself

technically what you are doing atm is getting a poker education, no matter if ur studying it or just playing blindly.. its all experience/education

the definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing over and over again, while expecting different results... so apply change to ur education (play sngs, mtts, cash games, etc.. maybe u need to find ur niche)

you said you just wanna make a bit of money.... do u ask urself that when ur studying for a biology in college, when ur tryin to b a doctor eventually ? ofcourse not.. ur studying to ace the fkn test ! (i hope)

to answer ur question, yes, but you must develop confidence in your game to take the next step

Ok maybe I'm reading this wrong...Did you state in the OP that your down $300 in 2 years? If that's the case then My friend your alot better then I am...Look I've been playing since 05..In the first 2 years I seriously would have to say I lost close to 11k...Then my 3rd year I made back 6k of my loses or close to it...But I lost that also....Then I came here in 08 sometime started posting and Reading up on the game..Taking advice on here, and can Say I made back my loses this year Finally...My only advice is really..Don't think about the 300, and if you can't let it go, then look at it like a learning curve...Gl with w/e you decide

Don't worry, ever poker player loses at first. I don't think it's not possible to not lose when first starting you. No matter how much you read and study, experience is the best thing. Learn a bit and approach the game from another angle.

Still lots of time

i just want to make a bit of money, but i might be so far down. like 300 dollars, that i might never recover what i lost.?

Sounds like you're focusing way too much on the money, making a bit and trying to recoup your losses. If getting you're money back is in the back of your mind while you're making decisions at the tables, its very likely seriously hurting your chances of making the right decisions.

Some may disagree with this, but you should try to enjoy the game; win, lose, or break even. If you're only playing to make a bit of money, it's probably part or most of the reason you're having such a difficult time.

Take the advice of many of the previous posts, learn the game, and somehow try to stop focusing so much on the money aspect of the game.

Don't give up hope, work at it, try to relax, be patient and enjoy the game.

That's a very good advice, I think...

Also reading books is sometimes a bit dry, but a good fundamental
for the game on the table. You need to know the theory and some strategy...

Even the greatest pro's have read some books.

There is no better advice...

...and never loose hope...!!!

Let's face it, online poker is a combo of luck, skill, and intuition. $300 over 2 years isn't horrible, but it isn't winning. If, like me, you don't want to risk your own money, then just play freeroll winnings until you've improved.

Sorry your in the "black" so to speak. Losing can make the game less fun and also stressful. I play mostly for the enjoyment and seem to keep ahead of the game a little. However, there have been bad times when I can't get cards or hit a thing so guess luck doesn't run my way sometimes. Hopefully, you'll be able to recover your loses and get to feeling better about the game. Good cards coming your way.

Being in the black means you are turning a profit. You are positive. ie. you are making money.

MY sympathies. But if you are down $300 in 2 years, that's not that awful.

I'm in a slump, too, but it's partially because I am playing MTTs (which i enjoy tremendously), where I am overall losing money because I seldom get very deep ITM, instead of playing a lot of SNGs, which I can win at but which I find a bit less fun. I also have been working on my ring games, and that isn't going so well right now. Somedays, I am ahead, others I am behind, with the overall results in the last few months adding up to behind. I feel the need to get my ring game in place, and it seems I still need to adjust. So the bottom line is that my own choices of how I am using my money are hitting me in the pocketbook. That said, I am having fun and learning a bit here and there. So it's kinda OK that I'm down right now.

If you are not having fun and you need to make money to have fun, then you might want to chill out on poker for a bit. On the days where poker is not at all fun for me, I stop playing.

It's only $300. I'd suggest.. 'forget about the money'.. just work on your game. Consider it as all necessary parts of a bigger journey.

One decent score (maybe today?)... or a few mos. from now... perhaps a yr. from now (or.. maybe a week?).. you'll look back at the 2yrs.-lose $300 thing as being very insignificant but also as being a part of the education part... part of the process, etc.

Read, play, review, watch training vids., rail some good players, watch higher buyins of the game you play, play, review, post hands, read some more, watch some more vids., read some more again, post a HH or two, read a bunch of other stuff, think think think.... play some more... then do it all again (& again).

i like u ppl but come on, tell em the truth.

I know this is gonna be hard to believe. . . . but its gambling. Its like ur expecting to win and that’s silly. Nadda in poker is guaranteed.

There is some skill involved, but luck is a huge factor in poker. aa loses to 38, a str8 to flush. . etc etc. we all experience a bad beat. all the books, videos and skill will help but they cant save u from variance in poker.

i mean when 1 of the the best pros in the world -chris ferguson tells u that u can expect to cash in tourns like what . . .1 out every 6-8 times u play and go without winning a tourn for yrs . . . or that u can have alternating winning and losing cash sessions . . . . . a big red flag should go up.

i mean everytime some1 asks juanda about playing poker full time, his reply is always get a degree or do something solid and play on the side. i mean if the best in the world are telling u its gonna be a hard road to winning maybe we oughta pay attention to em. lololo..

If ur trying to make money off poker id advise against it, because with the time and money ur investing in it u could do something. . . anything that would give a guaranteed return.

And with 300, ur probably playing lo stakes where the variance is a lot worse than playing at the higher stakes. So in a way ur setting urself up for trouble.

But hey, u never know u might be the next jerry wang, Jamie gold, chris moneymaker, or Robert varkonyi to win millions in the tourns.

these ppl relied on their skill and on their expert pro poker knowledge to win big. Lol, nope nope lol.

But these folks didn’t give up and won big, so why not u?
