Hi there.
First off let me say that I am an Englishman, but have spent half my life living in Iceland. Iceland is becomming a very popular place for tourists and such with pristine air healthy food and some of the purest drinking water in the world.
I'm digressing from my topic, Poker!!!.
Poker started to become popular here about 10 - 20 years ago, fisrt with small underground clubs, then when the government started to lift the restrictions, those poker clubs and other raised there heads above ground and a small boom in the game got started. It was helped along the way by televised events like the main event and high stakes poker.
Online poker also increased in volume with Scandinavian poker rooms opening up, but the best thing about online poker here, is that there are no restrictions as to where you can play.
I used to be an addict to some small degree and at one time had over 40 different site to choose from on my desktop. There were never any problems cashing out until one young man started playing cash games and won over a $1,000,000 and sent it to his account back home. The taxman got wind of it and decided he wanted a slice of the winnings and decided there and then to slap a tax on poker winnings brought into the country.
But, if you have an online bank account where you can deposit your winnings there, then you can avoid that silly little man and don't pay any tax, problem solved don't you think.
So you see, the title to this post makes me very happy because as far as I know I can still play any site around the world legally.
I feel very sorry for all Americans that wish to play poker and cannot due to there backward political system, you all have my sympathy for the struggle you are going through with your present gamimng restrictions.
I hope in the future your leaders will see that they are throwing away vast amounts of possible tax dollars and recind the gaming restrictions and allow you all back into the poker world once more.

Must be nice. :) You are very lucky lol. I wish things would of never changed. I really miss playing on poker stars and quite a few other sites. Poker Stars was my favorite, and hopefully someday I can play for real money again. Good Luck on all the sites you can choose from. :)

It is a good point,
many americans were declaring and paying their government tax on their winnings,
so it was a bit of a shot in the foot.

Perhaps more politics were afoot than we realized, cutting the income to force a deficit to facilitate a coup over healthcare reforms.

Almost as strange as an englishman with a spanish name living in Iceland.

You do you have it in England. It's nice that the fee lets this go around. For the Americans, it is very unfair that they cannot play, a bit of them still amazes in the advanced country to play poker laws prohibit.

I have always declared and paid taxes on all my online poker winnings. I didn't do so just to be a "good American", I did it so that one day in the future it didn't come back to bite me! I also paid the taxes so that I didn't give the anti-poker politicians any ammunition to help outlaw our games. Oh well I guess it didn't help being honest because they still stripped our online gaming from us...! Frustrating! I wish things were like they were before that fatefull day I tried logging onto my PStars account and got rejected, only to get the same on FullTilt. Give us back our Poker!!

I put my blame for online poker being banned on the casinos they didn't want to share their profits and the us blamed money laundering as to not have players boycott the casinos

still I enjoy living in the states and don't think I could ever leave for europe

+1.
Casino lobby is very strong in US which is a big roadblock in online poker's return. There are problem of money laundering or taxes but instead of banning it, regulating poker should be done.
