Hi all,

Only my second post, new to the forum, i realise there are many threads on dealing with tilt, but my problem is not just tilt, its becoming increasingly irritated by rude and classless people...you know the ones, with the comments.,..especially on PKR, such as
Fresh Fish, Booo, Cya, Ship it..

And then the ones that just mouth off constantly.

The problem is, i get dragged into all that crap too easily, and it puts me off my game. I went through a stage of just muting anyone instantly that started any bullshit, but am i missing out on information.

I know the easy answer from you people that can control emotiuon easier, will just be, ignore them.. but i find it hard.

Does it not irritate when people are rude and lack taste?

Turn off chat. It's hurting you way more than any small help it may be.

PKR is the worst for that, people call 4 bets with 66 and stack off on a J high flop, then next hand call someone a donk for value-betting top pair or something super standard.

everyone on PKR is ridic lolbad, just close chat, there's an arrow for that.

you don't need friends on PKR, just ignore them, makes it way easier to focus on your game. :)

Try killing them with kindness and just agree with them. Compliment them and thank them for allowing you to be at their table. They eventually either get tired of typing or start picking on your mother or some other member. Once they do that, you can figure you've won. Sinking to their level is just not worth it.

Ya want to meet some good people online, who/whom like to play poker, spend more time posting & reading on this forum, when & if you qualify & start playing in CC events, keep your chat on there. The rest of the time, as atated above, turn the effin chat off.
Welcome to the forum, by the way. :)

I just completely ignore it,look at it as a way of fish to communicate to 1 another..ha

Seriously though, just keep focused on what you set out to do when u registered/bought in to the table and that was along with others, to make money/improve your game.
Stay in the zone..GL

Yep turn off chat. It's useless unless you wanna taunt someone but I personally don't do it. Getting into online fights is pretty stupid. It's all about ego and at the end of the day, no one really cares if you won an online argument.

On Merge you can set the window to "mini" which automatically switches off chat unless you deliberately click on the "chat" tab.

Thanks for all your comments guys... i'm glad to have found a poker messageboard like this... I have actually been disciplined and turned chat off in the past, and it does improve my game, its just when i forget and then someone says something annoying, but i'm going to make sure i dont bother in future... i will just vent elsewhere...

Chat really does not help give you any reads so just ignore the chat because there its more damaging than beneficial in general. Anyone can get tilted by a bad beat and the chat only adds salt to the wound so ignore it or use the chat to vent so you don't go on tilt (do that when I get too frustrated but am trying to stop that as well).

either control you emotions and do not pay attention on what other people say or thay will feel it that u become angry and start tilting and then they will provoke you on purpose all the time. You have to controle, there is no other answer...

I think many of us find it hard not to get drawn into arguments with some of the idiots out there. I try my best and usually avoid it but occasionally let of steam. I think the key is to not let it influence the decisions u make at the table.

What is it you think you learn by exposing yourself to something that you know is likely to put you off your game? I doubt it's much, but maybe you get more from reading chat than I do.

That said, you can't always have your cake and eat it too. Even if you do miss out on some info from reading the chat, if the down side is greater than the up side, it's a straightforward decision.

Emotion is important. It helps you make decisions. Just using your intellect sometimes does not work. Emotion is your brain telling you things that you are not aware of. Persons who have no emotion can't even pick out a jar of jam from a grocery shelf.

That's not how it works.

Also feelings tell you things you are not aware of. To feel emotion you have to be aware of the feeling which gives rise to the emotion.

I have read many books concerning the topic of decision making and the brain. Experiments have been done with persons who have had the part of the brain which controlled emotion (amygdala) impaired, and they would stand an hour trying to decide what jam to buy. One Jam has better ingredients, the other jam costs less, etc.. While the average persons looks at the jam and takes the one they like. When someone goes all in even though you thinking you are using just your reasoning actually your emotions are a big part of the decision process.

Do you have any sort of link to this experiment? I'm dubious about it. Animals that do not have emotions don't spend hours choosing between two options so I don't see why emotion impaired humans would.

Here is a link of you tube video explaining emotions and decision making. Your brain also learns and stores events. That's why the more you do something the better you get. Animals do have emotions. Did you ever tease a dog....

If you feel incapable of battling this... then yes turn off chat. OR you could take steps to change your line of thinking which I think, in the end, will strengthen your game much more. Read the Zen and focus in on the game. People talking like that are a complete joke. Be secure in your own game and let the flyers be flyers.
