Hi guys, I'm back after a few weeks away from the game.
I had a really bad run last month. Took a few bad beats in $6 single table SnG's over a three day period...seriously, I mean i couldn't win an 80/20... and went on a tilt sesh where I proceeded to donk off ooooohh, $150 ish. lol.
Long story short, I stripped my account bare playing cash games (which admittedly I'm usually pretty weak on, but can pay well when I've got my game face on) and taking on higher stakes MTT's (again, an aspect of my game i'm working on, but mid stage MTT strategy just never seems to sink in!).
Anyway, as I've said before I'm just an amateur 'recreational' player and dont mind topping up my account every month, but it was a bit annoying to run close to $300 back down to under $100 in a month.
This month I'm reloading both my accounts (tilt and stars) with a view to implement a bit of BRM. I'm halfway through one of my strategy guides again and looking into buying a super system book. Quick question though, is Super System 3 just an update, with a couple of new chapters, or a complete new strategy/system guide?
I'm going to concentrate on the multi table SnG's for a bit now, as I've won some serious money playing these, while working on my large field MTT game, and stripping down my single table game down. Intricate plays have gotten me in trouble lately, and $6 games probably aren't the place for them!
Good to be back anyway. Hope April holds a bit more luck on the felt!

Welcome back. I'd say the first thing you need to do is just be able to manage your tilt, which I think you did a good thing by taking some time off, but it sounds like it came a bit late ;). Anyway, glad you're back with a refreshed mind.

As for the book. I am almost positive there is no Super System 3, but even if there was, I would say that's completely the wrong book for you given where you are at right now. If you were going to buy any book, given that it seems like you are mainly a SnG player, I would go with Collin Moshman's Sit 'n Go Strategy book. It is widely accepted as one of the best books out there on SnG's and I think could help your game a lot. Hope April is better for you, good luck.

I too am unsure of Super System 3, but would not recommend it if it was out, there are better authors than Doyle Brunson, with better internet poker skills.

I am looking into coaching sites at present, as I tend to find that things I read don't make the same impact as things I see.

GL in april, relax and enjoy the ride :)

It's not that SuperSystem isn't a good book, it is a great book and it has stood the test of time showing that it is a great book. The problem is, with the games that he is playing, there are much better books that are more focused on the specific types of games that he is playing, namely SnG's. Not once in SuperSystem does it mention how to play SnG's, what ICM is, etc. That is the knowledge that you need to play a game like that. Just as you wouldn't read Harrington on Holdem Cash Games for playing a tournament, you wouldn't want your next purchase to be SuperSystem when you are primarily focusing on SnG's. It's a great book, just doesn't apply perfect here.

Agreed, you make my point very well :)

Super System was the first book I bought and very informative it is. I just feel having read other books, they are more up to date and game specific.

Basics are not an issue here as OP seems to have had good wins in the past, maybe a book about the mental side of poker could be recommended as tilt seems to be an issue here. I know I could do with some help in that area too :)

Ahhh, I was mis-informed...Thought I'd read that Jennifer Tilly had written a section for a third installment, but guess that was System 2. Pardon my ignorance.
I've had a go at super system before, and figured I'd get back into it as I want to look into MTT strategy really. I get deep more often than not, but the mid-late stages cripple me. I cant seem to master the positional aggression needed to keep my stack healthy.
Many thanks for recommending the other strategy guides, and I have also looked at coaching sites (ghost players etc) but I just dont feel that investing in that would do me any good...I dont wanna be a pro, just a reasonable break-evenish player.

I think you mean Jennifer Harman. She wrote the Limit Section in Super/System 2, not Tilly.

Yea I knew that actually, and was fairly sure it was the limit HE section too. I was 3 tabling Full Tilt, 2 tabling Stars and in between here and playing mafia wars on facebook when I wrote that. lmao.
Good spot though.

It may be a good idea to open up 2 tables and concentrate on those to improve your chances.

I have a big issue with keeping my mind on the game, not wondering off day dreaming or watching tv or checking e-mail...just a thought :vroam:
