Hi all,

Making some custom labels to put on one of my chip sets, and need some inspiration.

So far I have four different options. Recurring theme is rock n roll (the heavy metal hand sign), my favourite football team's colours (yellow, red and blue) or combined. I also made a royal straight flush card fan in which I switched the numbers on the cards to my full name (five letters) on a blue coloured fire background.

Anyways, any suggestions on what would be cool? Would love something in black/blue colour combination. Also, not sure what text (if any) to put on the top or bottom of the chip.

The label itself is quite small (15/16 = 2.4cm) and is placed in the middle of a chip, so there isn't room for too much stuff.

So please CC, some nice ideas (or even links to finished images!) would be very helpful!

Cheers

What type of chips are you labeling? Do you have any artwork mocked up?

Just standard non-labelled chips.

My last attempt looks like this (please don't laugh), right now I am experimenting with replacing the ace in the middle of the last card to a heavy metal hand sign in black.

What colors are the chips you're labeling? Are you planning to vary the background to match the chip? Most labels I've seen are just white/black backgrounds. Have you checked out chiptalk.net yet?

The chips are all different colours, so there will be the same label on different colours of chips. I will only have one label.

I've stumbled across chiptalk but feel too noob to post there. :)

I understand the hesitation but trust me if you make the same post there that you made here, someone will help.

Because you plan to use the same label on all chips (same background color) I would go with a more basic background that what you have worked up so far. Probably just white with the cards more centered. Do you know the style of chips you will be using? If not can you find/post a pic of a single chip?

Thanks for the input. I get where you're coming from reg the plain background, it's just that I fell in love with the black & blue combination. I now changed the ace to the hand signal, and also added some fire & coal to the actual cards.

Here are the chips. And because the label is so small vs the size of the whole chip, I don't think it will be too "messy" with the fire background vs a plain coloured one. http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00tBlQpTFcJuoS/11-5g-Dice-Poker-Chip-LC-001-.jpg (mine are clay ones but they look the same as these)

Here is the progress so far:

They look great on everything but the red and green chips imo. One thing to note about labeling dice chips is that the centers a hardly recessed at all and the thickness of the labels will make the centers higher than the surrounding edge which will make them more difficult to stack than they already are.

Yeah looks pretty neat, especially on the white, blue and black chips. As wv said however the green and red don'e exactly match with the bckground on the label, but either way they don't look too bad overall.

The stacking could be an issue though, as also without having a recessed chip to have the label you will find that label will also become something easy for the players (without even taking notice) to pick at and wind up tearing off the chip.

I think its neat overall though.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I also noted that the green and red don't match perfectly and in an ideal world I would make them more in tone with the actual chip. But this is my first custom order, and minimum quantities from this supplier is 500 so I think I'll just order the exact same one for all chips. Next time I will reconsider.

As for the labelling on dice chips, I hear you and appreciate this might cause some issues. I have, however, also read this makes stacking and shuffling easier (!), as they tend to get less slippery with labels.

And to be fair, these chips won't be used once a week or so, just every now and then. So think they will last quite long.

I'm honestly not trying to talk you into or out of anything, just want you to have as much knowledge as possible before you spend your cash. Sorry if I'm coming off that way.

Are you sure the minimum is 500 per color? Most label printers (not sure who you're going with so I don't know for sure) will allow you to print multiple colors or designs (think for denominated chips) as long as the total order is over a certain threshold. Might be worth asking and making a couple different background colors if allowable.

Not at all! Didn't even think about different colour tones before you mentioned it, and come to think of it I won't press the order button until I know if there is a smaller min quantity. I really appreciate your thoughts!!

Btw, any idea what tone might work with both red and green chips? Perhaps grayscale fire and the same image?

I would try matching the colors if you can. So green on green, red on red.

I doubled checked the minimum quantity per design, and you were right! Min was 50, so I can get the ones in tone.

This is how the final came out, I am not thrilled about the red or green, but I guess it's good enough.

The details I changed were red letters & hearts on the red one, and the background. The green one got a green skull and green fire.

I like the red but I think the green needs to be a slightly different shade. Remember you want to try to be 100% happy with the design before printing them. A few days extra time now is nothing compared to hating a particular chip every time you play them.

So basically, the finished chips look something like this:

would consider putting
spade royal flush
club, diamond, heart....match the color of the chips!

well I would prefer a wsop bracelet design or something like personal custom LOGO on chips.:D

well ain't this guy just spewing unquality posts all over the place. the luck on the end meaning good luck in understanding what on earth he is trying to say sometimes. haha, I mean I don't want to sound like an ass but not only does the forum require English it also requires it to be readable and make sense preferably.
