I want to learn HUSNG - this time it's serious

So after losing some money I've decided what I want to play and it will be HUSNG. I have thought about how I play and I've found that these are my biggest problems when it comes to poker:

1. I can't stick to 1 game and see how I do over the long run

2. I tilt easily

3. I can't handle variance

4. I don't apply what I have learnt into my game

5. I'm lazy - which means I don't try to study poker enough and point #4 once again.

I have played every single format possible and I like and do well at Cash HU and MTT's however I do not have the time to spend 8+ hours a day to play a MTT.

The main reason why I have decided to study HUSNG is because it's easy to find a game, they are quick, you only face 1 opponent so in my opinion it's easier to get reads on him/her and exploit them.

I don't have a big enough sample size but I think that I am good enough to beat 1.50$ HUSNG at stars and maybe even 3.50$. All that I do when I play HUSNG is try to find whether my opponent is a TAG, LAG, tight passive, loose passive and I adjust my preflop game (Hardly ever adjust my postflop game, only if I see that my opponent is really tight passive I cbet often).

I didn't have enough motivation to do well but now I think I do have a goal that I would like to achieve which will help me try to exploit my opponents as much as I can.

I signed up to this forum to seek help from you guys in order to improve my game. I'd say my weak points are:

1. Not knowing what type of hands to call from the BB when I face a min raise from villain

2. I'm terrible at hand reading and finding any patterns/tells

3. Never bothered with calculating odds or expected value

4. I get crushed by LAG's

5. I do not try put villain on any range (don't know how to) and I generally don't think about why my villain is doing what he is doing after the flop.

and a few more points...

Right at this moment all I want to learn is ABC HUSNG strategy. I want to beat the 3.50's and possibly the 7's so that I can get a bankroll big enough to pay for a few training sessions with one of HUSNG.com's pro's.

I don't know if I want to play reg, turbo or hyper turbo sng's (reg are too slow, turbo are ok for me but I would prefer hypers however I find them difficult as stacks are so short)

I will start off by reading mersenneary's ebook.

Once I read the book and watch some vids etc. I will hope to play from 1000 to 2000 HUSNG at 1 stake and the same speed. Is this a big enough sample size to tell me if I am beating the stakes I'm at ?

The point of this thread is to find some advice about how to improve on the weak points of my husng game listed above.

Thanks for reading :)

Bigger bankroll needed for cash, I can start SNG with 150$ (100bi for 1.50's) + i feel safer playing with chips rather than cash as I tilt too much when playing cash games even 6max and FR

If you cant handle variance and get crushed by lags your better of at full ring, not heads up.

But as with anything in life, you need to put effort in, otherwise you will fail.

I've tried before and I'm 100% sure I can handle swings and variance that come with heads up sng's (not hu cash) because for example, if I do get a bad beat I am able to easily quit by not signing up to another SNG whereas in both HU cash and FR cash the software auto rebuys my stack and I chase losses.

GL. You can do it. Just learn to have a really good feel of the cards. Then once you start taking the lead just take advantage of it. A good strategy I think is win a 7$ hu then try to win two $3.50's right after, then just do this continuously til you get good and start dominating.

If you wanna do a session of like 10 games, or more of whichever stake level ($1.50/$3.50/$7.00/$15.00) I'd be happy to do it with you.

This will help both our games especially if we post hands on particular spots, hand ranges etc and giving each others opinions and thought process on hands, I think it's great for improving games all around. Also actually recording a video of playing each other and giving our thought processes afterwards as opposed to posting hands, it might be better.

If you like the idea of something like this; let us know and we can get on with it asap.

They are all non-us...... How about juicy stakes? I have not tried to deposit on Juicy but will give it a shot if that sounds good. Also guess I should double check and make sure they have HUSNG games. I am down to try any site that excepts US-players as long as its not carbon.

looked at juicy they take visa and have lots of good hu sngs also they have these things called a coin flip. Wacky because I love doing these coin flip games with a real deck at my friends home games. They just need to have them with like 4 people all-in on first hand way more fun.

Well I dont think HU is easier or needs less efforts than full ring. Instead I believe it takes more to do well in HU SNG. I have lost a lot money on Bovada HU SNG and I believe that most players in HU SNG are regs. It feels bad playing with them... always got trapped

David, in HU it's important to adjust to your opponent's strategy to exploit, so there's not really an ABC version of HU play. Except when one of the players is short-stacked, then you can use the NASH charts.

I disagree, I think HU have the least amount of regs in them as opposed to other games.

I think at the most micro limits; ABC strategy is good enough to beat the players there because they do such bad mistakes there is no need to get creative in play at all. A standard; solid poker foundation against bad players is the best line because they will eventually give you their chips.

Sorry, I overlooked the part about the OP wanting to play $3.50 and $7.00 - you're right Ramdeebam.

Well, HU cash game is better, however, I find HU SNG is pretty hard. Actually I believe there are more regs in all SNG than cash game.
