these books are amazing, the supersystems are the bible of poker. the author is doyle brunson and he mentions everything he knows on how to play aggressive poker. i read this book and it has helped alot. " The Theory of Poker" is also a great book that focuses on how to play hands and everything else you need to know to be a great poker player. I recommend these books for people who want to be good at poker.

Didn't he say that after he wrote this book he changed the way he plays?

The general consensus is that Supersystem is way out of date and not very effective online.

Steve

Said he changed the way he played not because it wouldnt work for someone but because everyone knew how he played now and that he needed to change it up.

I imagine that he still made much more on his books than he would of made at the table if he'd never wrote them.

Nothing at all wrong with the OP. The super system books are good, imo, for getting a good understanding of:
a) the fundamentals
b) a variety of games
c) more advanced strategies more suited for live players

They are slightly out of date with regards to online, but when they were released they truly were the bibles of poker.
Also, I agree that Theory of Poker is absolutely crucial for all players to read.

The supersystem is still a very good book for beginning poker players that need to understand aggression and why it works and how it effects your opponents.

What really bugs me about that book is that he is basing some of his ideas on "the the play station theorem".
And that is a very big misstake.

I know the posts you mean, but this is not the typical "I agree" or " pker is fun" or some such nonsense. OP is a new member, and stated his opinion on these books, and is IMO trying to make a contributing post. It does not reek of post-count-spam to me......

I am thinking of my first few posts. I did my best to not spam, but wanted to be a part of the community, and with my very limited knowledge had to find things to say within my level of experience.

At least op's post had actual poker content and the books he mentioned are fine. Super System (the original) is a classic that still contains a lot of good fundamental ideas.

Theory of Poker is a wonderful book. Even if you have disagreements with some of the conclusions Sklansky makes, the book helps to teach you which questions to ask. On first read I found a lot of it over my head and rather dry. However, as I have gotten more experience and revisited the book I find that the book gains in value over time.

I think two things hurt TOP in some people's eyes. 1. Sklansky isn't the most colorful writer and could be clearer at times. 2. In this era when every new player equates poker with Texas Hold'em, Sklansky draws many of his examples from assorted low ball games such as Razz.

Just because these books are old hat to the veterans doesn't mean that some newer members couldn't benefit from them (Especially TOP).

Welcome to CC OP. :)

There's some really good info in there(SS+SS2), not just NLHE - lowball, stud, hi/low, etc., and some general "approach to the game" stuff that I think is pretty relevant regardless of where or what you play.

Even SS2? (I've read neither.)

The NLHE section is the same in both 1 and 2 IIRC and it has very little of use unless you play in high stakes games against weak tight fish.

Or if you play in forum tournaments vs under rolled nits.
