I have been wanting to download and use a thirdparty tool but I'm not sure which one to get. I am also not sure how the HUDs work when you multi table. Also if the HUDs work while playing sitngoes and other MTT. And if I do download a HUD what stats should I have show during play? I am also not sure if it would be worth the investment right now because my BR is at about 265 so I'm playing the 3.25 45 man sit n goes mostly and that's what I enjoy playing and everytime I hear someone talking about poker tools its usually during cash games and not tournaments.

Yes the poker software that's out there that most people use (HEM manager, and pokertracker3), are both ideal for cash games. Any tourney or larger MTT sit n go, where you will be changing tables occasionally, will eliminate one of the biggest edges the software gives you, statistics on the players at your table and tendencies. These are only as effective as the sample size you have on your opponents, other wise it could even hurt your decisions. Honestly unless you are playing 6+ tables and mostly cash games, dont worry about investing in it just yet. And also just fyi, all those stats and settings and what not were all over my head too, i downloaded the trial for pt3, and I couldnt figure it out. Lol some people get it right away some don't...really made me mad too because I usually pick things up very quickly.

^ this.
Also, while the HUD might not be of much use to you, there's lot's of other stuff that will be - all your win/lose stats, what hands you play and from what position, etc. - really great for self-analysis and finding leaks. I use 2 different HUDs, Pokertracker sets it up that way, HEM probably does, too,1 for cash and 1 for tourneys, so you can tailor the info to what you need for the particulars of each type of game. I think the trial for PT is like 60 days, should give you plenty of time to mess with it and see if you like it.

There should be a something in the menu just for setting up your HUD.

Your gonna love having a HUD once you get used to it. In tourneys, you can figure out a lot about who is being a HBL (High Blind Limper with high VPIP), who is likely to have a very strong hand (super low VPIP), and everything in between.

It's definitely worth the investment and is a nice way to review sessions, hands etc.

just wait for pokeredge v5. its going to be the best when it comes out and its completely undetectable
http://www.poker-edge.com/videos/pe5-whats-new/pe5-whats-new.html

POKER EDGE IS BANNED BY BOTH POKERSTARS AND FULL TILT.

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/room/prohibited/
http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/prohibited_programs.php

I would assume that most other sites wouldnt allow it either but you would have to check them out for yourself.

All sites as far as I know allow poker tracker and holdem manager

@superman - double check where pokerstars (that's where you were playing, right?)is sending your hand histories, and make sure you have that option checked under "options- instant hand history options - save my hand history" in the pokerstars lobby. The PT website has a pretty good set up page for each of the sites, helped me out a lot.

You need a HUD, not just for the ingame info but also, as online players we all use huds and therfore all hands are talked about in terms of HUD stats. Therefore if you are not familiar with HUD stats, you cant easily participate in hand discussions and you will find it difficult to understand the advice given because often it will be in the form of "villian is 24/12/3 with a 3bet of 12%" therefore you should X"
