Okay I won 10 bucks from a freeroll and had a dab at the real money ring tables.

Full House on the flop guy calls all in before me so I called it.
He shows two AA and I think sweet, until for about the tenth time in my poker history turn and river show aces. Destroying me.
Now after this I knew I was gonna fire up. So I turned on my Enya cd and tried to calm down. Didn't work because I was calling stuff like Q5 suited, just hoping to catch flushes.

Can someone please give me some wish words to stop me from going on such bad tilts. I know I can just turn the computer off, but I'd like to be a little more disciplined than that.

What works for me is to think that I'm a sniper and that the person who did the deed is my target. I have to be very quiet and unasuming and wait until I get a real good view at my target then I take him down. This calms me down to wait for the killer cards that I know are going to come my way so I can annialate that guy, get my chips back, plus his, and live happily ever after.

It happens to everyone Boty, if you know you are under tilt you have to stop playing before its too late! Sit out for a few rounds, take your mind off poker and go do something else. Give yourself sometime to cool off. Its easier said than done but its that or you might lose alot of money. Tell yourself that you will get your money back, if not today, some other day, if not from that guy, someone else, whatever u need to tell yourself to get you off tilt. After that you should be fine.

When I'm on tilt I would leave the table or sit out. If that doesn't work I would go to a play money table and play it out there.

Sit out. Get up. Leave the room. It's a fact of physiology that it takes the average person at least fifteen minutes to escape the effects of a strong adrenaline rush. One of the primary factors in "tilting" is the mental jar from the bio-chemical storm that was just triggered. Your thought process is totally disrupted. Sound judgement is not an option. It isn't just the event you're dealing with, it's your body's automatic and unavoidable response to the event. Get some fresh air, have something cold to drink, take deep breaths, and when your pulse, breath, and thinking have all calmed down, return quietly to the table and wait for your chance to take the bastard out.

And don't forget, you're also going to be vulnerable after a big win. Your body is still wigging on the adrenaline. There may not be the same flood of negative emotions, but your judgement may be equally clouded. Be careful for the next few hands. I've come out on top of a huge pot, my heart racing, hands shaking, mouth dry, and realize I'm already to the flop of the next hand with 83 offsuit without even remembering calling the blind! Ever notice how sometimes you'll see someone at your table win a big pot and immediately hit the sit out button for a few hands? Not a bad idea.

To be successful you simply must learn to balance out at all times. You must be the same mentally when raking in a huge pot as you are when you take a horrible beat.

Granted, this is a difficult thing to learn, and sonmetimes even the best in the world tilt some, but you usually can't tell, and that's one of the things that seperate them from everyone else. Learning to keep emotion supressed and out of the picture is an aquired trait, and one that you can learn.

Until then, sitting out for a few hands is a fine idea. Collect your thoughts, put everything in perspective, realize it is a very short term setback, then continue with your play. You'll eventually be able to shorten these sitting out spells until you can just play right through in most situations.

I am just curious what stakes you were playing with that $10?

Did you hit 1/2 penny NL?

And was this your entire bankroll?

Many people make the mistake when they win a nice amount from a freeroll to immediately hit the money tables without taking into consideration whether or not the have a proper bankroll to play with.

My father does this all the time. He will win $1 maybe more and immediately hit the 1/2 NL tables at Jetset. And then only play like $0.50 cent or a quarter of it trying to make is stretch.

I keep telling him he needs a much larger bankroll than that since the Max Buy in is $5.

But, he doesn't listen.

I have close to $30 in my account and still won't play those tables.

I just keeping grinding out the freerolls for money until I have enough to sit down and play those. It may be a long time. But, I have money at other sites as well. So, I am in no rush to spend that money playing beyond my bankroll.

Remember, poker is a game of patience. And that includes patience with your bankroll.

If you had $10 you could have you could have hit a 2/4 cent table with like $2.40 and would be able play with a sense of comfort.

Yes 2/4 cent limit is not as thrilling as 1/2 penny NL.

But, with only $10 you have to think about making a bankroll. Not trying to make a quick buck. Because you will usually just lose.

I'm playing on .02/.04 tables at the moment. Up a little bit nothing special. People seem to chase anything on them which sucks. .
I won another 3 dollars on a freeroll last night, played the penny tables and have now taken to 12 dollars. I now play the .10/.20 limit tables, it's fun and I'm enjoying myself.

Concerning my tilting though. I just go over the hand and see it was my fault that I lost that hand, maybe I didn't read the flop right, or a bad call. It helps both stop tilting and for experience.

You have to remember that this is a game of chance. You're not going to win every pot in which you are the pre-flop favorite. Ask yourself how many times YOU have caught the miracle on the river. I don't have a problem with this because I accept the element of chance as an inherent part of the game. Another point, expect calling stations and chasers on the low limit tables - it's just a fact of life. I've been spending a lot of time at the .50/1 limit tables (stud & hold-em) and the quality of play is reasonable...

Well,

12 dollars is a good stack to sit down at 10/20 cent table. However, you should have 10x that in a bank roll.

Now I realise it is hard to grind to that may seem extreme for playing a 10/20 table. $120 is a lot of money.

That is why I am still at the 1/2 2/4 penny level. My bankroll is plenty at almost 50 to play it. In fact I will be able to sit down at the 5/10 penny games once I hit $60.

I like to err on the side of caution when it comes to my bankroll.

Many pros believe bankroll management is an important key to a winning game. I am far from being a pro. But, I agree with them.

You need to be able to live through the eventually bad times and a bankroll of only 60x the Big Bet just isn't all the great an idea.

I think your right there Michele.
I've gone back to the .02/.04 tables and I'm just waiting it out until I get some more money and then I'll move up. Blinds will kill me otherwise.

Runner, runner Aces are a severly bad beat, especially since you flopped a boat. In my estimation, the most important statement in your post was that you knew it would fire you up (make you tilt). This means that you are aware of an impending situation that you still were unable to control. Like IrishDave said, bad beats and luck are an inherant part of the game, and playing at micro-limits, you are far more likely to run into calling-stations and card-chasers than in the higher limit games. I am not advocating moving up, simply stating a fact that you should be aware of when playing at those tables.

More important than anything, play every hand as if the one before it never happened. In other words, don't let anything take you out of your game. Don't let the other guy dictate your moves, be deliberate with every check, call, and raise. Playing fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants poker and wreckless card chasing is always a negative in the long-run.

i think in this case "girlfriend" is a relative term, referring to the girl he spends time with in between poker games :icon_flow Or when he has to take a break after a really bad beat. As for the goo head, I'd like to know about that one myself. My guess is it was a LITTLE late, and he'd had a COUPLE shots when he posted that one. :vollkomme But you've got to love him, he's been trying SO HARD to be good since he got his moderator badge. :knuddel:

Well, SOME people have SOME time in between poker games. Unfortunately for me, I have too much time in between my live games this week. I ran away for the weekend, and missed both of the weekly tournaments that I normally play on Mondays and Tuesdays. By next Monday, I will be ready to beat someone down for a green table top and some chips.

After a bad beat I pull a Phill Hellmuth and bitch and moan about it. Makes me feel better. But I usually do it in a playful way.

I hit a boat the other day. Had A J and hit A J J But then after its all over I lose AAJJJ to AAAJJ.

All you gotta do is say something like "You called me with pocket Aces?" or something so off the wall you just have to laugh. No point getting mad. Its over and internet poker always going to kill ya once and awhile.

Come on you gotta have flopped 3 of a kind only to lose to a straight or flush on the river. I know I get that 3 - 4 times a night.

Curse the river. And go throw a pillow or 2

IM NEVER PLAYING POKER AGAIN!

I seriously hate the stupid game. What are some people thinking I can't believe it.

No word of a lie, I just got beaten by 27 off-suit for a very large pot.

Pillows have gone flying, my enya cd has no show on calming me down.

Why do i play such a stupid game.

Well make sure to make notes on these people who play 2 7 off suit.

But if you didnt raise big before the flop its your own fault. People let me play crap hands with it barely costing me anything they usually end up paying for it.

Take a break go play stud or omaha
