I recently started playing online poker at 888 with ~400$. Currently, I'm down $-230. I also only just downloaded poker tracker, the stats it keeps are honestly amazing. Looking at my graphs, I'm actually up in money won without showdowns (+60$), but obviously I'm losing way too much at showdown.

What should I take away from this? I suspect I'm bluffing too often, and losing money when I get called. And conversely, I have a habit of convincing myself that my opponents are bluffing when I only have a semi good hand. I know most players value bet most of the time, but in play for some reason I forget that. I'm decent at critical thinking, but when I'm at the table, I play too emotionally. How do you combat this?

TL;DR - What's the indication of only winning without showdown? And how do you combat playing with emotions rather than reason.

That could be a good indication that you call too much. When you have a semi good hand, in many cases you shouldn't bet or call, cause you're not that good. Try to focus on playing only good hands preflop, and play carefully postflop, a second pair is usually not a good hand !

Also, I suggest you watch videos are read books/article about poker, what hands you should play in some situations and why, that could be really beneficial to your game !

I have this same exact problem on my account on acr. The people that play there even at the microstakes I feel like are more regulars and are overall better at the game, so often when I'm going to later streets and approaching Showdown I need to watch out. Most of the time I'm getting there with a weaker hand than I thought. I'll need to practice there to get better, but yeah my $ won at Showdown there is trash

What if you play less hands than the normal.Try to play only hands with powerfull cards pre flop.Just try to change your strategy.

Hi.
Welcome to our community.
I also play poker on the 888 site. In my opinion you are right and you too often bluff. And this can have bad consequences for you. I think you need to be more patient and wait for a good occasion.
Good luck.

Ten years ago you'd have been right, people were bluffing way to often back then. Now the poker landscape has shifted to where people are bluffing a lot less than they once did. Doesnt mean they aren't bluffing just means they aren't bluffing as much as you think they are. Also if you're losing at showdowns a lot you either are calling with middle pair a lot or you've got kicker issues with top pair, either way cut both of them down.
