You have to be lucky to win? I'm not sure that's entirely how it works - however I'm no MTT veteran. It seems like ultimately your tournament life will be decided by one or two preflop all-in moments, yes - but you get to pick your moment, provided you stay ahead of the average chipstack and maintain a decent M, you should be fine.
Pay attention to the blinds - pay attention to how players react to the blinds - as they go up, your raise size can go down and be much more effective in stealing blinds.
And do not show your cards when you steal blinds. That's just gonna get you called next time.
Don't be afraid to put your villain's stack at risk if you think you've got him. You would much rather he have to make the decision for his stack than you.
That's all I've got. I've never played in a MTT.
