I hate limit for one reason Chasers. These are the ppl that will call all bets with AK and no match right up to and past the river or lead bet on the inside straight. This happens in limit because you are unable to protect your good hands like AA I just got rivered on by such a chaser. I get rivered more times in an hour in limit than all day in NL. Later in a trny its not so bad when the blinds go up and makes ppl a little more cautious, but early in a trny or at a low limit monry table beware the river.:thefinger

to each their own and everyone has their own taste in everything, poker variations included, but to me limit holdem is like trying to box with your hands tied up behind your back. :)

I love limit and do rather well out of it.

Of course the reverse is also true, cause its so easy to chase your good hands get paid off and when you do lose to the river its normally a smaller loss than at a no limit table.

Limit

I second third or whatever the motion I HATE LIMIT.

I do think it is a great tool to teach patience/discipline cause you really need that in NO LIMIT, maybe I should play some!!

No limit is a good way to lose money fast.

I would start with limit and then move to no limit, else you will probably go broke quick.

I have found that if you are patienc in limit, at least in sit & go tournaments that once you get to final table or close to payout on single table the level of play goes up plus you can learn from mistakes early without getting bounced out of tourney

I think you have to be more patient playing limit because you can't win alot and it is easy to lose

The reason people hate limit is because they don't understand it. For instance you complained about your AA getting rivered. Well if there was any kind of draw on the board, you betting or reraising isn't going to chase someone away. Especially if you are playing low limit (ie: .25/.50 cents or 1/2). I almost never raise preflop in a limit cash game unless I have AA, KK, or AK suited. Anything else is pointless because you are going to get called or even reraised. Once the flop hits, you must see if there are any draws. If there are, you have 2 choices. Lead the betting and hope for the best, or check raise, or just check call. See what happens on the turn. Then put some pressure on them. You will either win or lose. If you lose, shake it off and keep going. Personally in limit, I prefer suited connectors over PPs. Too often you'll have KK get called. The flop will be like J 7 2, and someone has 7 2 suited and you are behind.

Just keep in mind that chasing is apart of limit and there isn't anything you can do to get rid of them.

In limit, there are alot of factors involved. I think one main factor is the $$ limit your playing at. If it's low like .10 cents/.20 cents blinds, it's hard to get rid of those chasers because it only cost .20 cents. Also, it depends on your table. I've sat down on a $15/30 table and got my KK cracked to the guy w/ AK because the highest card b4 the river was a 10. In the long run, you kinda want those chasers because they'll pay you off most of the time.

Limit can get you slow, steady wins if you are patient and play smartly with premium hands. The killer, though, is that limit encourages chasers. It really stinks to have the pot "won" and get rivered with a longshot like an inside straight.

I agree. You just have to play a solid game. And in the long run you will win more than you lose.

The longer that the TNY goes the better people play so get used to that early on.
