I don't know what's going on! At home games, I usually win them almost all the time. I either come first or second. Where ever we would play, or who ever we would play with, I usually walk away with some money. But for some reason, I took a few weeks off poker and started playing online. I went to a home game last night, and totally sucked. I won ONE freakin' hand. So I tell myself, 'it was your first game in a few weeks, not much I can do'. Anyway, later that night there was a 14 person tourney, so I went and played. I couldn't get anything. The only good hands I had all night we're QQ, JQ suited, A 10 suited. Other than those, I got low cards, not suited. So when I got a good hand, I'd raise preflop hoping to catch a pair. And wouldn't you know it, If I have QQ, the flop is AAK. I found myself chasing flushed and straights that never hit, and an early finish. I went home pissed off, I don't know whats wrong. I played as I always did, and won about 3 hands in 2 games. Any suggestions on how to get my mind of this?

To put it simply, you had a band night. It happens to everyone and not just poker. Even the best asprots player has a terrible performance every know and then. It also was bad luck. I'm sure you will do better tomorrow.

Cold cards, simply really cold cards. Hang in there, you'll catch your rush and more than make up for it. Also, you didn't state how you were doing online. If you were doing really good, then one bad night live shouldn't throw you into tilt. Just let it ride and keep playing your game. It all works out in the end.

Yeah everyone has their bad day, we cant be up all the time, someone has to go back a loser. Anyway, play like you normally do and if youve been winning like you said you should be fine after the spell has passed. I get days like that too and usually it goes on for several days. Thats part of poker dude.

Well you guys were right, thank god. I thought that playing online could have somehow screwed up my game. Today, I cleaned everyone out. Bluffed big pots when needed, got lucky on turn and river. I'm very relieved.

Playing online is one of the best ways to practice for live games in a way. You play hands quicker and learn how to deal with every situation and type of player. So keep practicing and you should dominate small home games like that, and if cards aren't going your way just toss them no need to play queen 2s and stuff like that just because there suited eventually youll hit something. Worst comes to worst just go all in with the ace high if your a low stack someone normally calls.

Just make sure you don't rush your all-in play when you're short stacked. As long as you aren't in the blinds and there aren't ante's it doesn't cost you anything to sit there. I have resisted the urge to go all-in from under the gun or out of position with A-rag plenty of times, only to catch a nice pocket pair a couple of hands later, giving myself a good chance to double-up.

No Need to Panic

The good poker players avoid tilt by taking each hand as one small part of a larger game. Because you got a bad beat just now doesnt mean you're dead for the game or the night or the rest of your life. If your game is solid, then you are going to get beat. It happens to everyone. Stay with your game and you'll see when you're winning that you did nothing different but stay the course.

Keep in mind you just said several times you got lucky on turn and river.... that means it can always go the other way at times.....be prepared for both but expect the good of course !!!
