I can't make sense of this

I can't make sense of this, but it has played out over the last 2 years. At my local casino, I can do just fine playing $2/$4 Limit. Within small variations I win more than half the time that I play...I'm up over $800 in 2 years. Anyway, I used to play micro stakes Limit online on Stars. But, after stalling my bankroll at about $40 (built from $2.50 won in two freerolls), I decided to play micro stakes No Limit. I've doubled my $40 to $80 in a couple months. Similarly, about once to twice per year my wife and I make a trip to another casino. They spread a Limit game, but no one ever plays. So, I play $1/$2 No Limit and I win. I've won on most trips to this casino and two weekends ago I won $530 playing $1/$2 No Limit.

So, I can win at No Limit at another casino and online, but I can't seem to win at $1/$2 No Limit at my local casino! I've tried playing the NL there many times, using my profit from the Limit games. When playing NL, I usually play super tight (MUCH tighter than I do playing Limit) and always seem to get my money in good...even against the occasional higher stakes players waiting for a seat to open-up at the higher stakes NL tables. Seldom do I ever shove, so my losses at NL here usually come from not hitting draws, calling small raises with a small or medium pocket pair and then missing my set, or limping with speculative hands in late position but missing.

Similarly, when I move up from $2/$4 Limit to $3/$6 Limit, I seem to lose, even though I'm playing against many of the same players that play $2/$4.

I suspect that it may have something to do with the NL players at my local casino recognizing that I usually play Limit. But, it's a big card room and I am only there about once a week and only during the winter.

But, this is really weird and is starting to really bug me. Any insight is much appreciated!

The only thing that I can think of is that it's something in your head. Maybe when you move up you subconsciously become a little bit tighter because of the extra money involved...

Also, as far as you thinking the other players might not notice you because you are only there once a week in the winter...I'm willing to bet that you're wrong. Once a week is definitely enough for a regular to remember. I have a friend that has notes on people who only come in to our local casino once a month with his wife...

could be the going up in money thing,, also can be that NL is different than Limit, in limit you can chase, im NL if someone goes allin you have 2 choices, fold or call all your money, sometimes thats a difficult decision, that could be part of it,,just today i called an allin with 7 8 , forgot who said it but they said you called an allin with 7 8 , i replied, 7 8 has tons of outs, so sometimes it comes down to knowing what cards have lots of outs,,BTW, i won the allin hand,,lol, gl,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,buck:)

Small sample size? I mean, all live sample sizes are small. Could be just variance.

Could be that the players in that game are better, or playing more aggressively and you haven't been able to adjust well.

Could even be a different rake structure?

I had one of those last night too buck. It's funny the people who will call a certain bet with KTo, but won't with 78s. In most situations, I would rather have the middle suited connector... 98s is starting to become my favorite hand.

stick to your game the one that makes money table and game selection are almost as important as BRM ive won money at a lot of casinos but the hardrock in fla gave me a tough time the game was very very loose and that does not fit my game well 5 people played every hand and it was bingo and it didnt seem to matter what table. so i played a tourney and cashed nicely and won a couple of S&Gs some games are not a fit

I would say that the players at your local casino may know your playing style a little better....but you said you are getting your money in good and that's all you can hope for. If that is indeed the case, be patient and things will turn around. :icon_sunn

it is probaly the money thing. But keep winning at 1/2 and build your BR up higher and it might make it easier
