Negreanu's $10k was not a pre-flop bet, it was his bet on the flop, which he bet 'in the dark', i.e. before looking at the flop. Hence, the action goes straight to Helmuth on the flop and he calls the $10k, then straight to the turn.

The reason Negreanu was able to bet 10k in the dark was because phil hellmuth checked in the dark so he bet 10,000 without knowing he hit two pair.

If Daniel's $10k bet was actually post-flop, why was he so intent on making sure it was said before the flop?

I agree that this could set a bad example and be copied which in my view is bad for the game.

Maybe for a couple reasons 1.) He didn't want it to seem like an angleshoot where he saw the card in the window and then made it seem like he bet in the dark but actually didnt (he did bet in the dark) it seems like he was just promising that his bet was in the dark if you watch the video you see Hellmuth call Daniels preflop raise then Phil announces check after he called before the dealer had time to put the flop out there. then Daniel says "I bet 10,000" as the dealer is putting the flop out but hasn't shown the cards yet. If Daniel does hit his ace it could be a great move for him because Phil might not put him on an Ace since the bet was in the dark Daniel just happened to get lucky and flop two pair. I don't know what Hellmuth is putting Daniel on in this hand maybe he thought daniel had a small pocket pair and bet in the dark hoping he hit a set and get max value out of it but missed I don't know im not a Pro unfortunately =(

Considering the stacks, I think DN was just having fun with a small "in the dark" bet. Notice how serious he got once he saw the flop. Then it was all about how much he could sucker phil for.

Hi! First of all, thank you for the nice video!

Negreanu got a very marginal hand (A, 10). In some cases, it is advised to dump such cards. Very much important position! Daniel probably been guided by it.

In general, the rate increase in pre-flop, demands a lot of courage to play on such a big money.

That is why you throw away the A4 oop. :D He was put into a pretty bad situation when he flopped the ace and he just didnt want to get ran over by a worse hand it didnt help that he was crying everytime he called, letting daniel know he was definitely good.

He was betting in the dark, pretty much playing the flop before the flop cards are shown.

Since were talking about in the dark I will say this... I highly reccommend you don't make any plays in the dark (online) they won't know it was in the dark =o it'll probably be a losing play in the long run they should make a "in the dark" option for online somehow.

Perfectly legal, wisdom factor unknown, happens often with total strangers live, and in this case it was a friendly game.

In this case Dan figured he could induce a thought into Phils head, that he had high PP. It worked. Won't work next time against Phil.
