If you want to broaden your poker prowess, HORSE is one way to do it. Not just one, but FIVE different variations of the game we love:

- Hold'em
- Omaha Hi/Lo
- Razz
- Stud (7-card)
- Eights or better (7-stud Hi/Lo)

It's a game that requires concentration, and real poker skill. Check out our HORSE Strategy and Guide.

Do you play HORSE? Are you new to the game, or an old pro? What strategies can you share with us, and do you think it's a good way to sharpen your poker skills?

I find HORSE a great change , it is nice to play the variety of each one. It would be helpful that they have somewhere on the table of the one currently being played .
I have played where there isn't a sign anywhere and the cards are being dealt , players start betting and um which one are we playing ???
Otherwise it is a nice change, and as long as you are good with the hands - Razz being the main different one for lowest hands , then it is actually easy to play.
I agree with the article , that with Razz - you see weaker play ... people just keep betting and have no idea that they need a Low hand !
I really don't pay much attention to position, however again I agree that with Omaha it is important. I prefer hi/lo with Omaha , but even with the reg one , you still have more ways to win then in holdem.
HORSE isn't played very much anymore , and it would be fun to see it as an alternative for the daily games or even as a special monthly game for members :)

Texas Hold'em (I love to play)
Omaha Hi-Lo (little game, I do not dominate very well yet)
Razz (never played)
Seven Card Stud (never played)
Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo (Split Eight or Better) (never played)

It is a game that requires a great skill in different types of modality, knowing how to play only 2 will be a failure trying to play tournaments the advantage of who knows how to play all will be much bigger.
I liked the article, but I thought I could explain more about how to play each modality, but in reading it, I was curious to go study about them that I do not know how to play yet.

I always though HORSE is just acronyms of most known poker games. Its only after I read this article that I get that its a mix of games played simultaneously.:D:D

So is Holdem always Limit in HORSE?

I don't have any strategic tips how to play HORSE or 8-game. Only that before entering the hand make sure you know, what exact game you are playing right now :) It's really easy to miss it when the game has changed.

HORSE

Me draws attention the article because I have had a greater practice in Omaha and I think we should expand the HORSE games should be quite difficult to involve five poker games but should be very engradecedor for those who want to learn the poker variants

I'm sure the article leads me to look at the other games and try to play HORSE already that I am a texas holdem player only

HORSE is the most complex poker modality, it requires a lot of knowledge and practice, although if you get to learn how to play that kind of poker very well you can earn a lot of money, you can take advantage of other players who do not know how to play or do not practice it very often

when I get tired of holdem, I often relax and play horse, a very interesting game but unlike holdem it is more difficult,it is very important to properly distribute your forces between games in which you feel confident, and relatively new for you poker varieties in such a way to maximize your winnings

I’ve only played HORSE a couple of times and each time was in a CardsChat competition. I have to say that learning the last three formats of HORSE was very interesting and putting into play the aspects of each game throughout the tournament was a really good exercise in concentration and application, which is a good thing to develop your overall poker game, whatever format you play.

I agree with your article that generally you find that many players are weaker at the none Holdem types and this is the place to really concentrate and play your AGame. Making sure you don’t get blaze at the Holdem section.

I am looking forward to the prospect of more CardsChat tournaments in the near future to contain aspects of HORSE.

Yeah, a fun format for sure!
Especialy thous razz, studs and 2-7, hate LHE thou =)
I do play it from time to time here and there but more of a 1ce in a blue moon kinda times.
I doint have any strategy advice, but from what I experienced on lower limits many players just go bet-bet-bet with no idea in games that are not NLHE or PLO, since there is not much info that you can find. Yes there are some articles and post but most of the info is REALLY dated and is more of a intro course (IMHO), so it can be smart to leran thous indy-hipster formats as they should have much higher ROI. But again, IMHO.

Variance is huge in this game and when blinds go up you really are at the mercy of luck of the draw.

I've played a little, this format of game needs more concentration, because the game and the blinds change at all times. A curiosity in the origin of HORSE is that in casinos with high stakes, players agreed to play several types of poker instead of just one. This took away the advantage that the players specialized in a certain variation had on their opponents.

HORSE Games enchant me but all the games this mode covers only play a few and within those few just another little game properly for example; I love Texas Hold'em and is the most game, the Omaha game but do not quite understand, Seven Card Stud and Seven Stud Hi-Lo game and I like it a lot too

Horse is a great game when you need something to kickstart yourself, the thought of different stradetys is awesome , i have found you really need to watch ur chip stack because when the game changes so do the blinds ,and if not paying attention you may also find yourself thinking you have a awesome NLH hand but ur playing a razz round,i have fallen in chips many times from this

I have to admit, that I usually don't play HORSE. I usually play NLHE or sometimes some Omaha. But even Omaha not very often. RAZZ and Seven Card Stud I do not play. I just tried once to play these games in the CC Decathlon. I really was interested in these games, but somehow they was at the "prime" time of other games, so that they distracted me a lot and so it happened, that I even had to close one time the table.

Maybe it would be great, if such events with these "exotic" games would be offered at a time outside of the prime time for beginners or maybe some special beginner games,

I don't play HORSE because I only know bare minimum about razz and 7 card stud, but I did enjoy it when I participated in Cardschat mixed game competition.

In the strategy article there's written razz and stud are games of showdown. I guess then math oriented players will do far better than others in these type of games.

I would definitely participate in another mixed games tournaments as long as I don't have to risk real money :top:

I have never played HORSE for the simple reason that I don't really understand the betting patterns of certain games. I would therefore bleed chips on those particular games. I imagine a player like me would be a dream ticket for the hardcore HORSE player. That said, as the article states there is far more potential than there would be to make money so it is of interest, I would think experience counts for much more than in holdem and that is a good thing.

It seems to me that this game is quite interesting and play it more fun than standard Hold'em, but it is unlikely that it will suit those who in poker primarily want to make money and not for fun
