Hellmuth isn't as good as he used to be when he was younger. Negreanu is the best player in poker right now. Well, next to scotty of course.

It really depends on the pro tbh. Some make millions a year, some make what you would make at an average job and live an average life

This is a discussion that happens fairly often, and nobody's ever got any particularly good answers for it.

The answers you'll see most commonly are:

- Howard Lederer is one of the richest people in poker, probably worth many millions (mostly from being an owner of Full Tilt)

- Barry Greenstein is a multi-millionaire, and while he obviously made a big chunk of his money playing poker, the majority of it is in property etc these days

- Mike Matusow spends a lot of time swinging between millionaire and broke

- Phil Gordon is rich, though maybe not as rich as you might think, and he was supposed to be rich before he started playing poker anyway

NFI how accurate any of the above actually is.

Also recently heard Ivey was worth 100 million. Not sure how accurate that is but I believe it.

The average high limit cash game player will average 1-3 million a year.

MOST AVERAGE online players?? REALLY?? That's quite the statement....I don't buy it.

SOME very good online players can stand toe to toe with the pros, but not MOST AVERAGE players.

The three pros I'm friends with are comfortable. Not ultra rich, not middle class...maybe upper middle class, if this helps. These are older players not big-wigs, if you know what I mean. I know a few more casually...they're younger and more financially comfortable. not ultra famous, not has beens either. Just some younger wsop ME winners and others. Of all the ones I know, it burns me to say it, but Kathy Liebert is the wealthiest. Urghhhhh

Also recently heard Ivey was worth 100 million. Not sure how accurate that is but I believe it.

I remember hearing how ivey took 16 million from some rich billionaire over 3 days in some ridiculously high stakes games where this billionaire had challenged a number of pros...so yea i'd say it is pretty likely that Ivey is loaded.

Anyways, the net worth of most of the poker pros would be more closely related to their business savvy/investments than their poker playing ability.

Ivey is worth less than 100 million. Also, Ted Forrest is worth a ton of money.

oh and I don't think he counts because I'm sure he loses, but Guy Laliberte, owner of Cirque du Soelei (sp?) is a billionaire.

Yeah, the guys name is Andrew/Andy Beal - a Texas billionaire who went up against The Corporation. Google it and I'm sure you'll find more info. I'm not sure if the Corporation is still ongoing but last I heard was that Todd Brunson was representing the pros and playing against Beal in limit hold'em at the Bellagio.

I read somewhere that Ted Forrest was a pretty big backer in forming the pro team so it's not too surprising to me that he's quite wealthy.

Yea the richest "poker player" is actually the biggest loser in online history...

I don't understand how Beal can want to play Todd Brunson in HU Limit, at $100,000/$200,000. That's like playing high stakes slots.

For some reason I was thinking Gordon made gazillions of dollars back in the tech boom. Is that right?

Nobody has really said how much pros are specifically worth a couple of geusses but nobodys knows lol

Because it's personal information. I wouldn't expect you to answer if I asked how much you were worth, why just because they're famous are they expected to make their lives public? If they are open and tell people then obviously we know, but it's personal information, and if they don't want to tell people, there's no way to know.

Good local take on things, thanks for the input, I agree most players winning on the circuit are not 'rich.' I sense Ivey, Ledererer and the Brunsons, at least, are big leaders in lifetime cash game wins... I also have a sneaking suspicion that tony g is creeping up there (scarey thought I know).
I worry about Daniel, I know he has been up and down, and doesnt have big money to back him like some others...
