i know that my sisters friend use to be a casino dealer and they made like around $21 dollars an hour and that including usual tips. I dont know these wages could be at foxwoods but other casinos could be paying higher or lower. Also you can't become a dealer like that you need to go to school and get your dealing license / degree.

I know I looked into that part, $800 and one month to get the license.. Where are you located? I know the wage is different by location.. I live in FL.. I asked the dealers about the license thing, I just forgot to ask how much they make. >_<

100 hour course, usually costs around $1000, maybe a bit less to get certified.

Dealers make a low wage, $3.25-5.80/hour, plus tips.

Tips depend on the individual's rate of speed when dealing: if you get $1 every hand you deal, or say $3 every four hands, and you deal 20 hands/hour, that's about $15 in tips/hour in addition to your base wage.

I did ask this very question to a dealer at Mountaineer. He told me they make $4 hour + tips he was one of the beter dealers and was making 200-300 a night in tips. The down size to Mountaineer and I'm hoping they don't do it here in Ohio when the casinos are built but you can't play any game at the casino if you work there. They allow this in Vegas but not at Mountaineer. I have wanted to be dealer when the casinos are built here in Ohio but if I can't play on my off time then I will probably not pursue it, because none of my friends would drive 2 hours to a different casino when there is one 10 minutes away.

If you live in FL you are lucky because FL is the pinnacle of poker dealing right now. You can expect $1200-$2000 per week with a 30 hr/wk dealing position. So good luck and if you here of any openings, go for it!

Indeed.com has Vegas dealers at 47k/yr. I'm sure that's a base-not with tips.

Dealers in the UK only get paid about $15,000 a year, sometimes less, and they're not allowed to take any tips.
Taking tips is an immediately sackable offense at all the casinos I go to.
Its one of the crappiest jobs going really considering the salary, benefits and what most people consider unsociable hours.

Thats insane that they earn that much. These casinos must have money to burn, and its pretty terrible business sense on their part. Why not just cut that salary in half and massively increase their profit margin?

Wow - I knew wages for dealers in the States were bad but I had no idea they were single figure per hour bad.

Pay for casino dealers here depends on their experience, how long they've been at the casino, etc. Starting out they'd be on around AUD$35-40K pa. That's around the $37k per year ballpark in US dollars at the moment. Casino staff aren't allowed to take tips here*.

AFAIK they don't have to pay anything to get certified - when you apply for a job at the casino they pay you while you're trained and get your casino worker's licence but you don't get to pick your game so if they need roulette or baccarat croupiers at the time that's what you get trained in, then you can work your way into other games later. You can't necessarily just rock up and say "I wanna deal poker, give me a job".

I deal for a private company that does corporate functions etc, not a casino so the job description and requirements are a little different (we're casuals, for example, so in a quiet month we may get no work) but FWIW I get about AUD$40/hr for dealing.

* Unless James Packer gets the pit boss to fire them on the spot, tips them and then has the pit boss rehire them on the spot, but that might just been gambling industry urban legend.

My neice works as a dealer at a native american owned casino. She didn't need a liscense there. She wants to move, so she is going for her liscense. I have been trying to get in touch with her. I don't have any idea what she gets paid.

Im guessing that to be average not base. I know a couple people that have friends out in Vegas dealing, it all depends on what casino you work at and how good you are for example:

if you work at The Sahara or Riviera you may make 25k a year because not alot of games go on there and not alot of tipping.

On the other hand if you are good and are dealing at say Mirage or Bellagio and getting to deal in some of the big cash games you can make 100k+ a year.

A radio guy here in Cleveland goes to Vegas 3-4 times a year and has a friend that deals at Mirage and is making 118k year. When he deals the big cash games and is getting tips of $20-$50 every few hands.

I think the big problem is dealing in tournaments alot of young online players are playing in live tournaments and don't tip after a big win, just because they are not usse to doing it playing online. i read somewhere that Chris Moneymaker tipped an additional 30-40k to the dealers after his 2003 wsop main event win.

The one thing that most places allow dealers to keep their own tips no sharing or pooling because usually tips are a reflection of how the dealer did IE: hands dealt, flow of the game etc etc.

There can also be some confusion over tipping in tournaments because some tournaments have the staff tips built into the tournament fee and others don't - Matt Savage wrote an interesting article on it for PokerNews a little while back IIRC.

With tips dealers here can easily clear $50k usd/yr.

Also, in the states if you deal poker you don't deal anything else: poker rooms are [nearly always] separate entities from casino Table Games departments.

True but even in a tournament that is say a $60+$10+$5 where the $60 goes into the prize pool the $10 goes to the house and $5 goes to the dealers then they have an additional $5 bonus buy that gets you X amount of chips I still tip additional money if I end up ITM.

In the case of the WSoP of your $10,000 buying I think like 2-3% is taken out for the house and dealers but IMO should still tip if you end up in the money and I usually will go 5% of winnings.

Pity. French style dealing is OMG awesome. I seem to remember the Aviation Club dealers being far and away the best ones that got shown in the first couple of seasons of the WPT.

I think 3 or 4 buy-ins could fit! but also depends on the generosity of the players ..
