I recently had a intense debate about how many hours of poker is too much for one day? I had completed a very long tournament and was thinking about entering another when I was warned against it. It was argued that 6-8 hours of poker in one day is excessive. I disagree with this assessment, what do you think?

The person who warned me was my better-half and since she is my better-half, she expressed to me that she knows better and 6 hrs of poker in a day is too much. ....lol :bandit:

If the individual who made that observation was your girlfriend or wife, ....... Than yes 6-8 hours would be excessive..... lol

But if you are the Master of you own Domain [You Da Man!] then absolutely not, You know your own body and know how much you can handle on any given day.

Side notes: when I played on a more serious basis I had averaged between 8 to 12 hours on any given sitting, and my longest sitting was approx. 27 hours, but I would NEVER try that again ...... lol...... it took a couple of days to get me back to normal

its not about the hours ... its about how you feel ... if u run hot .. u got good feeling about the tables and know that u have the energy for long hours go for it... if u see that u are running bad .... u are on tilt ... and u want to get ur money back u lost that day .. plus no energy ... even 2-3 hours are alot

Usually, I play about 4-6 hours a day.
But if I have a lot of free time, I can play 8 or 10 hours a day.

I play a little time in tournaments from Monday to Friday, and when the weekend starts, I play a lot of tournaments in which I spend 5-6-8 hours in one tournament, for me it's okay when I play for a long time in the tournament and try to win more money , but many players do not like to play long tournaments and they play short, if you have a desire to play then you can play and try to win good money!

By default, our better half is always right. Even when we are for sure we are right and everyone else agrees with us. Lol....

my girlfriend thinks 6 hours is long too hhaha

I like to limit myself to 2-4 hours per night and 6- 10 hours on the weekends. I perfer to play MMT's which in themselves tend to take several hours so I will play 1 of these a day and a couple over the weekends. My better half doesnt mind, so that seems like a decent amount of time to play to me.

She's right. Shut up and listen. She's always right, even when she's wrong. Play a bit less poker for a while. Don't argue, you can't win.

I just play about 3-4 hour in one or two tournaments. If I feel I am not in a good condition, I won't play on that day. Poker takes me a lot of energy to concentrate.

The acceptable time to spend playing poker depends a lot on your situation. If you're working 8 hours and then coming home and spending 6 hours playing poker instead of leaving time for your family than the complaints could be valid. Always remember "Happy wife, happy life," and take time for your family first.

It depends very much on your own condition. If i sit to play after 8 hour normal shift during business days i can play for 2 to 3 hours usually. If i sit after 12 hour extended shift 2 hours are my max before i feel too tired. During weekends after 10 hours sleep i can take 6 to 8 hours. Of course i am new to this and i know people who can easily play 12 hours or even more without any problem so everything depends on you. If you play cash games - stop when you feel that you are tired and not playing at 100%. If it is a tourney - try to calculate for how many hours you will have power before entering it.

Yeah my wife agrees with the 'happy wife, happy life' saying and to make this true for me I'm gonna have to curve my poker habit a little throughout the week and endulg more on the weekend.

I think this is everyone's business. Most likely there was a view that the majority with time lost interest in the game and the thoughts are blurred.I spent 3-4 hours per day

It all depends on what you want out of the game...if its for fun, then 1/2 hours a day is perfectly fine....If you want to make money then it will depend on how much money you already have, and how much more money you want to make...

If you are a micro player and want to climb the levels, then you will probably have to play around 4/5 hours a day (multi tabling)....if you want to climb up the levels fast, and have nothing else to do, then 12 hours a day..

If you have a lot of money to start with and want to make more, then a couple of hours in cash games or several hours in a tournament (usually on the weekends)

4-5 hour sessions seem to be my normal extreme headaches after that. It's 4/20 y'all enjoy.
