i find that after about 8 hours or so my game starts to deter. i dont know what else to do with myself, so i keep playing. but maybe my game deter's beacuse the games seem to be harder at night too. i dont know. i just want opinions on this matter. i cant even think clearly enough to write this the way i normally would after my 14 hour session. which ended on a downswing, but maybe im just mentally exhausted...

you need to get the balance right, you cant play for 14 hours and play to your best ability. I would have no problem playing for 14 hours but i know i wont play my best. You need to take breaks in between, have food watch tv, take a shower etc.

As well as not been good for your game its also unhealthy for your body and your mind to be stuck in front of a PC for that long.

In my opinion, anything over 6 hours a day is too long, and you werent born to live your life in front of a computer. Play for a few hours then socialise or work etc.

I would actually think the games should be easier in the evenings, and there should be more in the way of table selection available, too. I'd concentrate the bulk of my playing hours in the evening, if possible, and use some of the "extra" time during the slow time of the day for study/reading/review, etc.

As far as how long to play..... If you feel your game starting to slip; it's time to step away for awhile. Come back when you can feel focussed and alert again so that you'll be playing at your best.

I think that games at night is easier to beat, because usually this is the hour that the recreation players tend to play more. I think 8 hours with intervals in between is a good amount of hours to play. I also think that you need to work your mind doing some exercises it's very important, at least for me, when I'm doing nothing, poker become very stressfull for me.

this could be just me but i think youre right to grind as long as possible so long as you arent tired.

simply keep playign if the games are good and youre winning. a nice strategy i employ is once ive put in over 8k hands that day i will start checking the sessions profit every 10 or so minutes and quit if i lose 2.5 buy ins from my highest point

I think the best piece of advice in here is to take breaks. Although many of us are capable of playing 12-14+ hour seshes it is hard to play your best poker and to have the determination to focus for that long. Taking even a 15-20 minute break will work magic for your game.

This ^^ - you have to get out of the chair once every hour or two and stretch. Otherwise you are putting your health at risk.

OMG! Thats a lot of playing. As I'm new to this world, I can not straightforward say this many hours are fine. I tried to find out whats new in American poker. This site (http://pokersitesforusplayers.net/) seems to have good covering of American poker. But this mostly covers online poker. Hope this helps. tc.

Lots of good advice here.

Just like studying or working a job, regular breaks with a little stretching or walking around, maybe a little nourishment, every hour or so, should help to keep your game fresh and keep you out of the Chiropractor's office.

if u do ANYTHING for more than a certain number of hours obviously u're not going to perform at your best. stamina can be trained though.

Shoot, play as long as you are profitable. most business owners work 24/7, have to stop on a dime to handle business. If you are making money go ahead and play 72 hours str8. take a day off one day or two, but getting lost in poker is a ok as long as u making money

huh it depend what you play, if you play MTT you have to be rdy for 12 hours ;D but if you play sng 1 table, then you can decide exactly how much you want to play :p also multy tableing is much much more exhausting, sometimes i play 12 tables it burns your brain :D so, few tables 6 hours per day is cool ;D

+1

Recently did a 21 hour session, and for an old guy like me, I got worried that my abilities were being stretched. Turned out well tho with 2 serious wins and several lesser cashes that day.

I think many things come into play here (no pun intended) How many tables you're playing, if you're taking breaks, even how long you played the day before. One of the main thing for me is , am I winning or losing. Just my thoughts

Whenever you're not having fun anymore just stop playing and play again the next day. You don't want to get burned out on poker and not enjoy playing it.
