I was replying to another thread the other day and it got me to thinking. I've been playing online poker for around 10 years now and have played way too many hands. About 6 years ago I bought a specific book and studied it to death and started to take poker seriously. I'm not really a No-Limit player. The book was on another form of poker. Anyway, in this book, it said something along the lines of "you need to play a quarter of a million hands to really have an understanding of a situaton". So I set myself the target of playing 250K hands in one month. It seems crazy now but I worked on the assumption of 60 hands per hour 24-tabling. This equals 1440 hands per hour. Which means that monthly I'd have to put in around 174 hours. This meant roughly 6 hours a day. Fortunately I work for myself and can shift my schedule around when I need to. I didn't manage to do this I don't think but I set myself a target of 4 hours a day in 2, 2hour sessions. This, if my maths is right, came to around about 172800 hands. This was over various sites as the game I play isn't particularly that popular.
Anyway... to the point of this thread... 6 years and millions and millions of hands later... I noticed that one 20th of all the hands I've played at this game have been against one player (this isn't really that surprising as most of the regs multitable and if he was 24 tabling when I was... then the chances are we were at at least 20 of the same table.). Unfortunately, HEM2 went down on New Years day and I lost a lot of the histories... so I can't be more precise... but I estimate possibly 900K hands against this one guy...

The question is... what's the most hands you've played against a single player?

I think the necessary number of hands played isn't equal for all players. Imho it's a matter of poker talent which far from everybody has.

I would think that it would be invalid to expect that another player would play that many hands within a month's time.

900K? wow! I reinstalled my computer one year ago and I also deleted the hand history. I think, that I only played about 3k against one opponent (max.). But I play the micro stakes NL Holdem on pokerstars, so I think, it's normal that I got a lot of different opponents.

I was interested in the number of hands anyone's played against a number of opponents in NLHE.... The reason for this is that sometime last year I was in a PSO Live Training and they were talking about playing a large number of hands against an opponent and I said about having played 700k (at that point) and everyone was like ... Wow... whereas... as the game I play mainly isn't NLHE... there's a smaller player pool so you come up against the same players all the time... especially when multi-tabling... The guy I've played way too many hands with seems to always be online... whatever time I play... (although... funnily enough... I'm 8-tabling at the moment and he's not there)...
I don't expect anyone to play that amount of hands in a month... I know I play a lot more than most people... but I'm also aware that there are some players who play a lot more hands than I do...

I tend to aim for 2k hands a day minimum now... unless I'm having time off
