Curious about what is a good hands played percentage. I try to play around 30-35% in six-handed cash games. I try to stay closer to 20% in nine and ten handed games. Does this look about right? Am I playing to many hands or possibly even to few? Thanks for any input.
Depends on your style and the stakes but you have to be insanely good to make a vpip of 30%+ to work in 6max. You'd be better off playing something between 17-25 in 6max and 12-18 in full ring as a very very rough guide.
30% is way to high even for six max. I'm not saying you can't beat the game that way, but you have to be an excellent hand reader, and it will be super high variance.
I play at around 19/16 at 6 max, and you can go tighter than that and still beat the game. Good cards in position is still the way to beat 6 max, it is still Poker.
Play good cards and you'll have to worry less about the precentage of hands played. There have been many occassions when my hands played has been 5% or under, but my win percentage at 80% or better.
cant really put a number on the amount of hands, especially if your consistently getting decent or "qualifying" hands. Such as pocket pairs, suited connectors, or face cards.

In the short term this is quite true. However if you play the same cards from each position for long enough, it will work out to something you can put a rough figure on,
I have a hand range chart I made myself. My starting requirements for each position. I use it now because I know it off by heart. I don't stick to it rigidly. It is flexible. If there are two super nits in the blinds, I am raising like 100 % on the button. You have to adjust to the players you are playing and different situations
However my Vpip and PFR don't change all that much, up and down by the odd 1 here and there.
