I know it's a controversial topic, but how long do we have?

I assume eventually online poker will go the route of online backgammon, where it's a solved game and there's no point playing for money since it's bot vs bot.

At that point, the only real resource will be playing in brick and mortar casinos... How long do you think we have until that day comes?

Is it worth it to put tons of effort into getting good at poker if online poker has a ticking time clock?

Good luck on waiting for it to be a solved game. It is significantly more complex than backgammon. The problem space is just too large.

There is some concern that bots could get better than humans, and they certainly would be better at randomizing and making pot-odds calculations. Still, worry about crossing that bridge when you get to it.

I think that poker is way too situational for it to every be "solved". Ask for poker advice on any given hand, and the answer is always, "It depends." There are always multiple factors that weigh into how you play out a hand; a good poker player never does the same thing ever single time (imo).

I think the heads up game is prolly solved for the most part by AI. but as far as a full ring game goes, it will be decades I think before something comes close

Not too long, but we certainly are not there yet.
I would give it 10 years from now at least. Ray Kurzweil, the AI expert, says, a human level AI will be developed at 2029. But thats at their labs. Then there is still time for AI to actually spread across the globe. So we have at least 10 years I guess.
But on the other hand, when we will have AI so sophisticated, you probably wont have to worry about making a living in the first place :)

I think another 10-15 years, and we'll be at the tables in tournaments with bots to play, soon the bots will seize everything on the ground, and the bots will win jackpots and not people, people will have to play only in a live casino

Bots will never be allowed on online poker and will always be considered cheating... The question is: will there be bots that can remain undetected by the poker sites? I think it will be a continuous battlle :) that's what hackers do... they look for flaws and exploit those flaws

Bots are always possible to calculate. And poker rooms will fight them.

I used to think about this very often but now I try not to think about it at all because we're not getting anywhere if they even really are

poker players should not play online and not use card shufflers with optics in live games. And let the companies makes the adjustments to keep the game. I don't get why people accept non sense.
