On average how long would you say it takes you to read a poker book?
Obviously books can be different lengths so for argument sake let's use kill everyone or the Harrington books as examples as they seem to be popular books a lot of people have read.

Sure you can read a book quick but are you really taking everything in?

It depends on the book. Harrington is a fairly easy read, but the value of his books lies in the examples. I took time going through the sample hands and learning to think as a poker player.

It takes as much time as you can spend. The good books need to be read and reread after you have played a few thousand hands. They are totally different reads.

Which time? first? second?? third... fourth???

It's kind of an odd question (imo). I've read some poker books in one sitting, others I still haven't finished & have owned them for many years.

I am not a very diligent reader. I have read quite a few over the last few years but nothing too recent.

Depends on the book and how hard it is to follow. As others said... To really take everything in requires a reread along with studying te material.

Harringtons book would probably take me 2-3 weeks to read taking my time and given my schedule.

Most of the time you will miss a lot of things on your first reading of a book, its a lot to take in! But after you read the book 3 or 4 times all of a sudden you start finding out things that you didn't even know were in the book!

I know there are some david sklansky books I have and i've read them about 5 times and everytime I read them again I learn something new! Take your time with the book and you should be able to get through the first reading in a bout a week!

I don't think one can answer this just like that. It not only depends on the length of the book. Every person reads at different speeds. Some are fast readers and can read a 600 page book within a week while for others it might even take 6 months.

People who are good at reading with concentration and with good understanding, vocabulary and memory skills are the ones who are capable of taking most out of a book. But if you are interested in something deeply and determined enough to learn then you too can "read a book a take everything in" ! :icon_joke

You should never read a poker book, you should study it. There is a big difference.

Kind of an impossible question to answer. The real question should be "Do you have a weakness that is addressed in the book in question and do you respect the author enough to accept his position on the matter?".

It will vary by book but if you set aside a reasonable amount of time each day/night to dedicate towards completing the book you can easily finish it with time to spare.

Reading a poker book is easy, but absorbing the information within is another matter. Find the poker book thats suits your game and study what it and other similar books say.
Then when you feel you are ready for your next try enter and get knocked out by some donk who has no idea what a preflop raise means. It happens so frequnently that sometimes you have to wonder at the rondom generator that every site says it uses.lol

I dunno, I hate reading. I am too slow at it, I would rather it be a e-book. I have a hard time reading except for fine print lol.

I tend to read two or three books at the same time, but it takes me a month or so to finish. I usually wind up reading each book more than once when there's strategy involved.

I may not be too well versed in poker books but IME I find most of them outdated. What would you say is the shelf life of a book that just came out in print?
To answer Cheverz question I suggest reading it through once just to get the essence, then pulling out the laptop or notepad and actually study what you're learning.

Maybe I'm ignorant, but I have not read any books about poker, I'm self-taught.

I think the main thing is not to read this book and understand its meaning may have not once read any book to understand its essence and what I wanted to convey to you the author of this book
