Hi, I'm wondering if math is important and required for somebody looking to be a professional poker player one day? Thanks.

I think it is helpful, but not important. A lot of the odds can be memorized, when you look at 9/10 handed or heads up. Also if you learn how to calculate the win and pot odds, try taking the time every hand to do the math to practice it.

math are very important in order to calculate the odds of winning a hand, and the, pot odds when someone bets for example half pot, if you have a flush draw, math will give you the answer whether to call or fold in that spot. however as there are lot of psychological decisions in poker like bluffing or calling with a bad hand assuming your opponent is bluffing, math doesnt seem to be the only and most important thing in poker. having the ability to read, bet correctly and staying calm and focused in the game are necessary to be a successful poker player in the long run.

Posing the question in the spirit of "whether it is necessary to know the math" is incorrect. theorems and proofs not need to know, need to understand a few intuitive practical applications, and that no higher education available to everyone. in principle, in the words "bank ratio odds" laid most of them.
Many do it intuitively, not necessarily to calculate the percentage to two decimal places, you should estimate approximately the same And by the way in poker math curriculum, so do not be afraid

Mathematics is one of the parts of poker. So it is certainly important but being a good "mathematician" is not enough to be a good player. There are a lot other factors that are just as important.

Math is very important. Some people focus on the math that's done during play. But that's not the whole picture. There's also knowing what the math that you don't do at the table indicates. Actually, you don't even have to be able to do that math at all. What's important is being aware of how and/or when the math that others have done points you towards actions that are mathematically better than what you'd "normally" do.

Math is essencial for any proffesional poker player imo. Mathematic knowledge is important during the game, to be able to make +EV desicions in the real time, and after the session as well, to be able to calculate and understand things to improve your play. Playing poker without at least some basic knowledge of math is just a gamble. And the more you understand it, the less you're gambling..
