how important is income and how much money you have in poker?

people always say poker is 70% skill and 30% luck or something like that, but leave out how much money they have. i think its more like 25% skill 15% luck and 60% money.

if i was a millionaire i think i would be 10Xs better than i am now, just not worrying about losing rent. playing rebuy tourneys and rebuy and add on as much as i want would greatly increase chances of winning.

if i played any pro heads up online for $1 games i think it would be the same as playing anyone else. but for $100 it would be way different

so how come someones networth isnt factored in to how good they are or should be?

Having more money won't change how good you are in the way you mention... You should always play poker without thinking about the $$$$ though thats easier said then done however it would make you better in the fact that you could play against the best in the world which will end up making you better which is how guy laliberte started by losing his money to Doyle Brunson however!!! Guy is a billionaire and can afford to do it if you make 100k a year you could play against the best however you may go broke before you become good enough to play at the Highest stakes... another thing just because you are rich does not mean you are okay with losing money $ is $ no matter how much $ you have besides you dont need to be a millionaire to have good bankroll Management so if you play 2/4 online you should have at least 30 buy ins which is $12,000 which is a lot of money but no where near a millionaire but more then needed... you could go to your local casino and play 1/2 and have 30 buy ins which is $6,000 and play an play an play till you are good enough and have the Bankroll to move up where you will just keep getting better... sooo you don't need a millionaire to become a great player and being a millionaire doesn't guarantee that you will be good... and as for your playing pros in $1 games and being as good as them or it be like playing anyone else is dprobably not true the only way I can see that being true is if the pros get bored at the low stakes and it lowers the pros top game... To proove this Daniel Negranu had a challenge where he started with like $100 and turned it into $100,000 in a year by playing at lo stakes and moving up without adding any additional funds.

Actually I was wrong Daniel Negranu did this challenge starting with a $10 Bankroll... and I also wanted to add the story of Phil Ivey into this... Phil Ivey started by taking a bus to Atlanta city casinos where he would play with his work money I believe it was a fast food job and would play under a fake ID under the name Jerome and some days when he would lose all his money he would sleep under a bridge... Phil Ivey is now known as one of if not THEE best poker player in the world and he did it by going broke over and over again till he learned how to win and he would sleep outside in the dark under a bridge to do it... becoming good at poker has nothing to do with being rich it has to do with dedication and wanting it. =)

It's not factored in because it doesn't matter that much, what matters is how tall you are. Just ask Jamie Gold.

If you were a millionaire, you'd be the same player you are now. You'd just put more money at risk by playing rebuys and higher stakes. And if you're not a winning player now, you wouldn't magically become one, especially by facing better opponents.

if u were a millionaire u wouldn't be playing the stakes that u are playing now, so it's a moot point.

A rich fish is still a fish. If you're trying to become a master sniper in the military you won't magically get there by picking up a bigger gun.

On most days, poker is 70% skill, and 80% luck, and when you can understand that, you will enjoy the game at whatever stakes, which covers any bankroll.

On some days (not so often actually), it might be 100% skill, and only 10% luck. Or vica versa.

When you can actually define 'luck', those numbers might change.

I'm glad I havnt money now for deposit. I think I would just waste them. My level is the same if I play low or hi limits and I need work hard to improve my game first. If I had million in my pockets I would still stay little newbie fish lol.

play alittle lose a little, play alot lose alot.

its like shopping. the more money you have, the more money you spend. if your already a losing player( and im not suggesting that you are,im speaking generally),then just multiply what you are losing now by the amount of more money that you will be willling to play if you were richer.

simple really...

I really dont know how you can assign luck as a percentage.

If we define luck as say your made hand holding up against a draw, then as your sample size increases the % of times that your hands hold will converge on the true mathematical % value of this eventuality.

All players that play long enough will have their hands up hold up as often as each other, or at least to a mathematically significant value.

Income, imo, at playing a given game depends on

1) Your inate ability to beat that game
2) The amount of time you dedicate to improving said inate ability.

I dont know what weight you should give two factors. But imo, for any long term player luck is pretty much irrelevant. Luck (ie variance) purely accounts for the small up and down blips on your graph. the actual overall path of your profit line depends on the above 2 factors.

Plus of course a lot of players blame "luck" when the simple fact of the matter is they suck at poker.

I think you have to play not thinking about the money, but that is very hard. That is why only some players can do it. Its a tough job.

The pros make their money off of people that think that way.
If you are playing for the rent money and the grocery money maybe you should make a budget and play at smaller stakes. Until you can play successfully at a certain stake it is unlikely that you are ready to move up to a higher stake.
Personally I am stuck at $2NL because cards aren't really my bag. Baaaaby.

Being rich doesn't affect how good of a player you are, just how much money you'll lose.

I don't have any money for poker, so I just build my br from freerolls. Hopefully I can eventually cash enough to start a live br.
