I know some people like yoga or exercise to prepare themselves for a long session at the tables. I often just wake up, freshen up and get myself online. Does anyone have a routine they usually do before a cash game session/MTTS?

I think the most important thing is to be well rested, having slept well, not eat much and eat light food, as it will be many times in major tournaments. I think that is the most important and especially patience. greetings

If you are feeling sleepy your focus won't be the same, and your game quality will decrease. Don't start to play sleepy. If you start feeling like this during a already started game, try to wash your face, drink some coffee or an anergy drink. I don't recomend any kind of drugs.

When you're playing a long MTT or just grinding grinding cash games, you need to make sure you don't feel tired so that you can constantly make correct decisions and maximise your profit. My advice to you is to always keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water. You can have the odd coffee or energy drink which may keep you awake, but at the same time can make you dehydrated. I would also recommend sitting in a chair and playing on a desktop rather than lying in bed on a laptop which can make you feel tired and less productive.

If you have a good life, outside of poker, it will really benefit your poker. For example, try to eat well, sleep well and maintain another hobby/interest or goal aside from poker. Make sure to see friends often.
Most notably, Vanessa Selbst (a great female poker player from germany who has won A LOT) Credited her happy life outside poker to her poker success. She has a recently acquired law degree too, she is only in her 20s I think.

Before any long grind at the tables, it's best you get plenty of sleep. Not only will you feel better for it, you will also play better and ultimately make correct decisions. It's also best to stay hydrated before and throughout the grind as well as having the occasional snack to keep your energy levels up. I would also recommend getting some exercise and some fresh air to make yourself more focused and determined.

Take a nap before you start your poker session. Especially if you are going to play in a long MTT. I would avoid taking drugs as they normally weaken your judgment in critical decisions.

After a good rest for a bit of exercise. Snacks are close to me and if I am starting to get tired I'll take a piece of chocolate. TV isn't open only music allowed.

I think the comedy show suggestion is a good one. Something to keep you entertained and keeping you light hearted when things aren't going your way; whether it's being card dead or just bad beats. Thanks!

I will take a long rest (sleep) before the tournament. When I wake up 5 hours before schedule I'll watch poker videos so I can fully motivated in playing poker.

Well, i dont do long grinding sessions right now but when i used to, i didnt prepare at all. Just switched on the pc and started to play. Push ups and yoga and al that stuff seems way too much effort before playing poker.

I never really plan to have a long grinding session, they just kinda happen. But if i think one might be likely to happen then
i) make sure i've eaten something reasonably heathly
ii) plently of water before and during the grind.
iii) make sure my wife is not in a huff with me about something.

I must have missed something here.

About the original question, I'm like vinylspiros.
No preparation....if I want to play I just start without doing something special.
Only exception is, if I have a game scheduled I really need to play and I feel tired, I take a powernap before it starts.

Prepare for long grinding session

The only thing I do to prepare to play any online game is a self imposed rule and that is my chores have to be done.

I find if my chores aren't done I find myself being bothered that they aren't done thus not having the concentration on any game that I might be playing.

Good luck to all on and off the felt.:) :)
