I enjoy watching the wsop and EPT as much as anybody. After watching hours and hours of professional poker players do their thing, a lot of the time that thing is busting out of these super high buy in events I got to wondering. How is it they all have the means to play these stakes??

Some of these buy ins are 50k euros or even the One Drop is 1m. A lot of these players are very young, in their mid twenties. How the heck can they afford to buy in at these limits? I know there are a lot of very good young players like Gruissem, Haxton, Dan Smith, Severt and Coleman obviously but I find it hard to believe that they all just grinded their ways to the top.. I don't mean to be a hater or anything but my mind races to say, "They must just have been rich kids and had a hell of a BR to start."

I haven't found any decent bio's on the players I've searched that talks at all about their upbringing or parents. Just that they made x amount their first couple years and moved up. What I read on Coleman said he made millions his first couple of years but that's probably not so hard to do if you have a 100k BR to start with. Obviously they can't all be trust fund babies like Bilzerian and I realize most have sponsors or backers at this point but I'm assuming most of them had to have been pretty well off to start..

What do you think?

A lot of them are staked by their friends or have other backers. They rarely have 100% of themselves.

Alot of players who play in 50k+ events sell alot of their action to help them afford to play the game so when they end up winning 2 million+ they're lucky to be actually owning 200k if that due to backers %'s

I need to make some more rich friends so I can play some higher buy in events! I'm trying to qualify for an 1100 BI even coming near me. Even though I have the money to buy straight in I'm too much of a stickler with my BRM to justify that!

I suppose that after you bink a couple tournaments on your own the backers will make their way out of the woodwork?

Few of them he bought the package, or a rich family, the help of friends, or playing on the big stakes.

If you are good enough, you get business backers (much like race car drivers).

Pretty much all of the pro's playing the big buy in 50k's and 100k have less than 20% of their own action, if not less than 10%. They basically network with a bunch of rich investors that pay for their buy ins. Must be nice to know mega rich millionaires who will put you into any tourney you want :p

the backers assume the same risks as the players I'm pretty sure. So the only thing that probably happens is the player who didn't cash has to send out some embarrassing emails. "Sorry about that 10,000 dollars man, we'll gett'em next time." lol

Yeah I think it would be similar to betting on a sports team. If the team loses... your money is gone LOL. If the team wins, you get paid!

some of the backers Keep on backing mtt after mtt in hope of big Returns. if the pro lose one high roller ,ten it s mark up for next mtt also backed by same Investors most of the time... those backers think this as a Business , not really as gambling. they know in highrollers or super high rollers the field is not too big n one good run with gd skill can win those tournies n make millions.. so they Keep on backing those top pros in hoping for big payday

Worth it to play Satellites??

Satellites have always been a play, I am not very comfortable with. I wonder what/how you guys feel about it? Do you guys like them? If so.. how do you do with them? I have played many with low buy ins $5.50-$11 but never the larger, but I always want to... Is it worth the risk to get your seat? Is it possible to make a large event just by satellites? Has anyone ever done this and won some real cash doing so? thanks for reading guys, and thanks in advance for any replies

I've done pretty good in sng qualifiers. There's one online I play somewhat frequently, it's 6 players 1st gets a ticket to the nightly 30k. I have cashed in it several times but never final table it.

I think satellites and qualifiers are a great way to give yourself an opportunity to play outside of what your br would normally allow.

Honestly, this is how it is for most players esp the younger ones.

They all just swap pieces and are backed.

100k events - younger pros despite their hendon mobs saying 1-3 million in earnings, don't have that kind of $ to throw around.

They just sell pieces of themselves to other pros and backers and wind up being in a 100k for 10-15k.

Most of the poker money in the community just passes around from one person to another, which is why you hear most "pros" are broke stories.

Not all of them are obviously "broke" but they aren't what you perceive from TV.

Someone once told me that talent was a dime a dozen, so many people are talented and have the potential to be great but hard work and dedication go far beyond talent. And those with talent but without dedication will never achieve greatness. I believe it to be true.
