How do others relate to the fact that you play poker?

How others (parents, wife, friend) refer to the fact that you play poker?

My wife likes to play poker sometimes. She is a pretty good player.

Nobody cares about it because that is my hobby

My parents do not play poker and do not like gambling but they see that i play as a hobby and do not risk my money for living so they respect it and do not complain. Some of my friends play poker and i play with them. Other friends just do not care. Frankly i am yet to see anybody who do not like me to play poker and directly tells this.

Haha Nearly every one says "YOOOOU?!?!?! You a POKER player?!?!?" So I ask my self what is it they imagine a poker player to look like or be like...

Then it hits me... They expect Hoodie, classy shades and a few gorgeous women in my entourage...Well

I have to correct them straight away "Nope that's my mother, my two children and their hip hop buddies from school", "I just Play Poker, NOT a Poker Pro Yet" and "No, I've not come here to borrow money" LOL like as if all Poker players are Hopeless Gambling Addicts lol

I've not needed to tell any one close like family and friends as its already an open book Every one who knows me knows i love playing poker as much as some others love Fishing or going to the gym!!!!!

Nobody knows xaxaxax... I'm kidding. My wife has nothing against. We'll see how he will react to online poker, since I'm just starting out lol

my children and my husband likes that I play and they rejoice in my victories,But since I'm still working that they are sometimes concerned about my health and asking me to play less is not Particularly advertise.

My wife does not like my poker playing in the slightest. Not only does it take away from me paying attention to her, but I have a few outbursts at big losses that shouldn’t have happened

My parents think I waisting my life and they propably right

My wife doesn’t like it when I play poker, because when I lose it I get angry.

Parents relate this game is a gambling game and I hate that

My wife is the only one that I have grief with over playing poker.

So I grew up playing cards at home.

And took to gambling early.

And than online happend and than casinos opened in my city.

No problems from wifey

Technically your parents are not wrong. I think people just fail to realize the difference in gambling when the casino sets a line to give themselves a slight edge and making bets in poker where we can control our own edge. It is very rare that we make a bet with our opponents drawing dead so technically we are still gambling. If we are good players we are getting our money in with a significant edge is the difference that non poker players do not understand.

Yes I know this is gambling too, but, I think this "gambling" is different as to gambling in sports for example, in poker we have all the control of our own money, in sports we depend of the players, I think that yes it is gambling but if you know what you're doing this game can turn in a way to life, in a work, that's why poker pros live from this.

I agree. Although some people seem to somehow make a living betting on sports too. Finding bad lines or in-game mistakes and exploiting them. Poker is definitely very different though.

Like a red headed step child! Weird how the perception is toward poker. For my family, it is a seedy back alley, going get stabbed and cheated out of all my money. Yup, even in today's day and age.

A gambler

My first husband hated that I played. To be fair, in part I probably played online so much because it was a distraction from the problems we had. My second husband, whom I taught to play, now plays more poker than I do! We totally get the love of the game, and enjoy poker as a shared hobby.

My friends and relatives do not understand me when I tell them about poker, that they can earn money for life, they look at me like a fool. Therefore, I try to no longer tell anyone that I play poker.

None of my family cares if I play or not. But when I feel very good, while winning, they share this feeling with me.

Many of my friends say that play cards is a kind of crazy - they have no idea about a poker game, thinking we may lose everything we've got if we become adicted to it (the old foolish concept). Some says it's very complicated to understand it and some wants to learn etc.

But you know what?
I really don't care what they say; I just play my poker.

my family does not see it with pleasure, they are afraid that I will fall back into addiction to the game, but I explain that at this time I only do it recreationally.
