I know how to play money and have made good money playing thus far. I have moved to Vegas and have a great job to supplement my bankroll. Now, how do I get started? Limit or No-limit? Tournaments or cash?

It is very hard to answer such a question straight forward. What's your skill level? Could you beat the pro's like Daniel Negreanu and Phill Ivey? How well do you understand the mathematics behind poker and how it influences your decisions? How much money can you afford to lose? How well are you able to handle down swings and bad beats emotionally? How much time can you devote to the game? Have you had any professional coaching yet?

That's just off the top of my head. See how tricky your question really is?

If you ask such a question, then you do not know how to play. Alas, this is true. Otherwise, you would have known the answer for a long time. :D

To start from scratch - you should try everything, little by little, at low-cost limits. Set a stop-loss, dropping to which you go to another format. And so while you do not run out of your money (poker room will say thank you, lol) or until you find your game in which you will get.

The first step is to study a lot of classes with some professionals of poker and to study more to see videos exchange idea with players to gain knowledge to have in the minino 13 times the value of the tournament that you play and to continue studying

Dude, the vast majority of people who post on this form (including myself) are here for the freeroll passwords. If you want career advice from freeroll amateurs, then good luck!

Elaborate some on the bolded part please. What were you playing when that happened? Was it a fluke one time thing, or can you do that somewhat regularly?

DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR JOB ! yet!

Curious thing about poker in Vegas is that a lot of tourists dump a lot of money trying to play against the regs. But the real poker talent is in L.A. There are more poker tables active in L.A. than the whole of Vegas most of the time. Take the whole state of California and it might be 5-1 in Ca's favor. Exceptions obviously for the wsop.

Is that why the average thread on this forum looks worse than a preschool homework assignment?

You should play tournaments with bigger buy in because then prize is bigger but also risk is much bigger.

I think it all depends on the level of your game, and you can not start with a big bankroll and succeed, but you can spusti a decently large bankroll

Except you, nobody can give an answer. In this forum, most players - it's amateurs. I think, that you need to conclude a contract with a professional poker player (or hire a coach) and together with it determine your future vector of development.

If you've ever watched the Daniel Negreanu documentary you'll see that even he went broke a few times before he made it. Don't fall into the trap of not knowing who the vegas refs are, often have backpacks with their pack lunch in it as they're there for the long haul!

If you want a "career" in poker then you want to play tournaments. As most of the more popular players today are tournament players. I suggest winning a WPT tittle. They are almost as prestigious as a wsop main and 5 grand cheaper with a smaller field. Make yourself a tv final table and you're instantly on the map, simple as that! If you want to make lots of money quickly and you've got the chops then cash games are the way to go. Good luck, cant wait to read about you in cardplayer.

If you have a big budget and lot of time and patience you can make some money.. One way is to play sit & go with 9 players, start with small buy-in (depends on your budget)5$ for example. If you reach the payments continue with another 5$ sit & go.
If you don't try at highest buy-in, 8$ for example. If you lose again try the next higher buy-in 11$ for example. This way whenever you take a first or even second place you have earned back all the lost money from the previous tables.. But as I said in the beginning to follow this "strategy" you need a pretty big budget, and much patience...

well assume you are well versed in poker theory and have had some practice, start at the smllest stakes possible then move your way up, but if you are comfortable playing at higher stakes against higher level of player and your bankroll can take it, then go for it

It is difficult to clearly answer the question. You need to first understand what is more like cash game or tournament? What version of poker do you like more? Where better than me? Where the most revenue?

What do you mean asking about poker career? You want a professional contract like Daniel Negreanu or what? If you just want to win money on poker you can do it live or online. If you want to leave your job and have some sponsorship, i guess you need to play more live tournaments and have some good results in that, so maybe someone will offer you something.

To make a career in poker, there must be a very strong desire, well-honed skills, and many years of training.
