Ive been trying for a while now to get some real poker going on in my area. With the lack of knowledge of poker in this area its really tough to play real poker with real strategy. I know everyone has thier own style of play but Im talking about people that dont play blinds, no ante and low buy ins with high bet limits. Thus bringing me to my question. How should I go buy determining a limit. The usual buy in locally ( house games ) is 50, and we usally play no limit. I just dont get the theory to how the players bet with such a low buy in. It's like the game would start off with players betting 10. which if they go to the river, there is a good chance of players being all in on first hand. I know some players go all in on the first hand but around here the way players bet does not make sense with the buy in. Is 50 buy in to low to play no limit? Should I attempt to make a different type of play ( pot limit)? Also If 50 is low enough to play no limit , what can I do to make the game more realistic. Seeking help to get the game right! Thanks in advance

doesn't seem that low to me, to start with 50$. especially if they play with no blinds and no antes. what's the rush? wait for the hand (you know AA KK QQ), bet like 15$ preflop, shove the flop.

when my friends ware unwilling to learn to play with blinds because it was too "complicated" i adapted because they are so dumb and so bad at poker i just have to adapt because it is the easiest money i will always make out of poker.

So you think its just a strategy of waiting until I can get paid. I guess that will work but I would like to play more realistic. I mean there are times that players will check all around and we get a flop for free!!! Now thats when I say a blind is needed I mean anyone can check a 7,2 off suit and flop two pair . Now if I flop high pair Im caught in a hand where I should be ahead. I guess there is pros and cons to their style of play but I just want to play realistic.

I agree. Host your own game with your own house rules. No blinds! You might as well just start cutting the deck and high card wins! If everyone sees the flop, your win percentage is going to go way down.

Sounds like you need to educate your friends on proper game play. Pick up a NLHE rule book, and host the next game at your house. Explain to them how it should actually work, and use the book for those who need a visual explanation.

I do not understand how you can effectively play poker with out any type of antes or blinds. One suggestion I would make is. If they think blinds are to hard comprehend. Just have everyone ante up a set amount at the start of the hand. At least this way there is some money the pot to compete for and you my be able to make them understand later about the blinds method of play.

Like others have said, I think you should host it and make them play with them. Yes, you are going to have to probably tell the sb and bb everytime to ante up, but they should catch on eventually.
Like JQ said, have the book available in case.
Also, you could think about doing it tournament style.

Just sounds like nobody really learned how to play the game the (right way) , so everybody just got used to playing a certain way, nobody likes changes once they get use to it, so just explain to them this is the way the game should be played, they will get used to it, it's not that big of a jump from the way your playing now, once they get used to playing the game the right way they will wonder why they never played it the right way the begin with :stupid:

A group that I play with on the regular is setting up a meeting ( sadly its about the rotation of who gets to host the game so they can rake) Im gonna use all these suggestions and try to get rid of the rake. I just want to play real poker. I will bring a poker book and hopefully these fuys will understand. Im not playing until the players get it right. I usally bring a lot of money to the table so I think they will be willing to listen.
