Hey everyone, I am new to this forum and was just wondering if anyone could tell me how to get started on becoming a professional poker dealer. I am in my early twenties and need a part time job while attending college. Anything anyone can tell me about the profession would be useful, but if you can answer any of these questions it would be great: What school did you attend to learn how to deal, how much was the tuition, how easy was it to get a job after graduating, what was your starting wage, is it a fun job, how much does a dealer make in tips a shift? Thanks!

Your best bet is to contact a local cardroom/casino and see if they have vacancies.

I would guess you want to work fairly locally, so if they don't have any jobs going might need to get something else to tide you over.

As for earnings, guess that depends on the type of players your dealing for.

Good luck though, let us know how it goes.

First off where are you? Are you near any casinos? Usually they will hold job fairs to fill positions. They do a background check just like any other job and start your training. You go to school for a period of time and you just don't go for poker dealer in most casinos. You also learn to run other games.

I live in the los angeles area and so am next to about at least 8 casinos. The ones that I am most interested in working for are Commerce, Hustler, or the Bike.

The three casinos you mentioned are all regarded as quality casinos. If you plan to deal at these casinos I would assume they would require you to work full time and have several years experience at a smaller casino.

I think the general career path for dealing involves going to "dealer school", then breaking it in at a smaller, less-known casino for a couple years, then moving onto the "big time" casinos.

I don't thnik you will be able to get a part time job at the three casinos you mentioned with absolutely no experience, or even just going through dealer school. I would contact them though, you never know. Also they may be able to point you in the right direction...

Yes dealer school, and they will guarantee placement. Not all schools are created equal. A good school will teach you to deal several different games. And excellent schools will teach you to deal "chinese poker". Being able to deal a few games, and chinese poker makes you invaluable to a casino.

Ps chinese poker is very difficult to deal.
