raking $1 from each pot, is this not too much? Does it change your strategy any?

Each pot? So if the pot is $1.05 you take a dollar of it?

Careful...taking a rake from a home game sets you up for all SORTS of legal issues. At least here in the US.

But typically after $10, $1 in rake is taken and then an additional $1 for every $10 more in the pot with a cap of $3 or $4.

A rake in a home game? Seems a little unfriendly to me. I wouldnn't be incliined to participate in such a game. I would rather go to a casino if that was the kind of game I was looking for.

It's not my game, it's my friends. (I'd rather not go into details about it) But yes, that is what I'm trying to say.

It seems awfly steep to me, and seems to make small pots pretty pointless. (for example, blind v. blind hands) I don't know whether it's worth participating. Thanks for your help so far guys.

What does that rake go towards? Is he providing you with champagne and caviar?

Thats a bit shoddy 4 a home game. He better b dealing all nite n supplying beer n food 4 ya...
Taking $1 from each pot is stupid. Go by the 5% or 10% rake off pots...

Do they operate a no-flop no drop policy ? ie not raking pots that are taken down pre-flop, if they rake pre-flop then give up this game. Otherwise, there is zero point in ever limping even from the small blind.

If the game is reasonably tight then dont play either, this game is only beatable with a table full of stations and maniacs.

Rake at Homegames.

Cool, sounds like ya mate has aspirations for running his own Casino one day.

Despite being highly illegal, I think anyone who runs a home game with a rake, is

just trying to unnecesarilly profit from his"so called" friends. Does your mate

have any good pyramid schemes about to get off the ground? If so let me

know, as I can take the appropriate actions to report his greedy ass, if you

can't. :D

Regulated for a good reason

Yeah funny how this world works, like how the Govt regulates things that need

to be regulated like alcohol sales, gambling venues etc, etc and anything else

that stupid people have tried to engage in without proper

organisation and completely stuffed the whole thing up.

^ this.

If every pot is huge then rake capped at $1 might be OK. But if there's mostly smaller pots then you're just wasting your time. And if they rake pots that are taken down preflop there's pretty much no point raising to steal the blinds, because you're risking say $4 for a 50c profit.

Combined with the potential legal issues as well, I'd just look for another game.

Wow, I've never had a friend ever even mention collecting a rake in a home game. If they want money for drinks/food, they should ask for it seperately from the game if you would like to consume such goods. One of the good things about having a home game is the absense of rake . . . I'd say it's a no go.
