Last night I was playing holdem on Full Flush and I was in a hand at a table of five, everyone folded but me and another player, I had a total of 9 dollars and the other player had 47 dollars I had the winning hand and the other player went all in with his 47 dollars and I went all in with my 9 dollars which made the pot size 56 I had the better hand and was told I was the winner, but I did not win the whole pot size,, I thought when a player goes all in no matter what the dollar amount is with both players the winner would get the whole pot, because if you go all in you chance losing all of your money am I wrong?????

Effective stack size only 9 dollars...

When two players are involved in a pot, the most any player can wager is restricted by what they have in front of them. Thus if one player has more than another, he can only risk what is in his opponents stack. This value is referred to as the effective stack.

Example: 1) Player A had $40 and Player B had $300. The effective stack size for these two players is $40. 2) Player A had $2 , Player B had $5, Player C had $8. You wouldn't say that the effective stacks for all the players is $2. The effective stack size between Player A and Player B is $2. The effective stack size between between Player B and Player C is $5. The effective stack size between between Player A and Player C is $2.

You can only win so much as to according to the total amount you bet times (or multiplies by) the number of players matching your bet. So if you go all in for 10 bucks and other player has already went all in for 100 bucks before you then the total pot will be 110 in the beginning but then 90 bucks will be refunded to the villain by the dealer matching only 10 bucks.

So the total pot size you see in the beginning is just an illusion. :icon_geek

Yes, you are wrong, your prize
from each player can not be
beat more than your stack, the
remainder will rival, if two all in win $ 18 and
blinds, and so on

You can't win from any one player more than you can bet. So if you have $9 and go all in, the most you can win from any player who calls you is $9. It doesn't matter if an individual player put in $50 you can only win $9 from him.
