What do Americans think of this player ? I personally think he was blessed he only played it because his bro won a seat on stars, He couldn't work because he injured his back, and it took him weeks to convince his wife to let him even go at all, he payed full buy in and deserved his win, but he hasn't done much else and it was a very long time ago.

Massive MTT's are mainly about luck. That is why no one even comes close to repeating. Pros bomb out in day 1, etc.

Did not know this full story about Joe Hachem's story. I guess when it's meant to be it's meant to be...

But yeah, I think of him as a one hit wonder. Don't really think he minds this though

I think he's done alright for himself. As of June 2012, $11.7M US in winnings, making him 10th highest ranked player in tournament winnings.

The year after he won the WSOPME he took down the WPT championship, one of only 5 players in history to win both titles. The others being Doyle Brunson, Carlos Mortensen, Scotty Nguyen and Dan Harrington. Pretty good company if you ask me.

Not counting those two massive wins, he's still managed to win $2M USD. So I think it's safe to say he's more than a "one hit wonder."

Even if he is a "one hit wonder", he seems like a likeable guy.
Raymer almost won two back to back. now that is sick. Harrington made the final table twice right and won it once?

Big MTTs imo have more luck, but you have to make all great moves to stay afloat.

There are plenty of players who have had multiple deep rounds...

Matt Affleck has had MANY deep runs year after year.

You need to be a solid tourney player and of course have a nice roll/backer so you can continually enter these year after year.

I've watched a lot of PAD and other poker shows and seen Hachem play quite a bit. I wouldn't say he's "lucky" by any stretch (though anyone who wins the wsop is lucky) and he is certainly no Darvin Moon (luckbox). He just seems like a guy who plays solid, I don't think I've ever seen him make a move on PAD. He probably ran like god during the wsop

I've never understood why some people feel the need to denigrate recent ME winners. It seems like all of them from Moneymaker on have been subjected to this.

So what if none of them are among the best players in the world? They've all achieved waaaay more than I have or ever will in poker. Sure they ran well, but no one wins the ME or even gets close without running well.

In addition, does knocking Hachem (or whomever) mean I'm better than I actually am? Of course not. Does the fact he won the ME despite not being the best player in the world somehow improve my chances of winning it? Also no.

So what's the point of knocking him or the others?

I guess he just didn't live up to my expectations after when he won the big one 8yrs ago, He's as solid as a rock, i have not met him but he seems like a very nice guy, I don't really know if he runs good he won 7.5m in 2005 up about 4m in the 8 years since then 500k a year average minus the buy ins and travel expenses i guess.
Just asking as i was curious.

Calling him a "one hit wonder" and saying "he hasn't done much else" seems to be pretty critical if not denigrating.

Well i see your point, i think he is a one hit wonder and i should explain why, it's been 8 yrs since his big win 8million up about 3.8million in the 8yrs since, now taking into consideration all the entries he won and the cash he had to chase his dream by my accounts he's not so great, also he has gone off in different tangents to that of a poker pro, no big buy in's for Joe no massive cash games for our man either.

It would be nice to even win 1 big tourn. Pros play many years and don't win big . One hit wonder is harsh words. The guys got talent

He's solid as a rock, zero x factor couldn't read a broad sheet so his cash game isn't even a factor.

The only one I don't respect who won the ME is Jamie Gold. He just looked like a ***** during that whole run. He is probably a way better poker player than me, but I don't care at all for him.

Why are you wanting the view of Americans on this?

Pretty sure Joe has won millions in other tournaments since too and plays cash games.

That said, I wouldn't mind being known as a "one hit wonder" if I could scoop several million and have people think I'm just a luck box. Nothing better than having someone think you're lucky and have little skill in poker, talk about getting an edge.

I was curious what they think is all, Don't get me wrong not that i know him but Joe seems like a pretty nice guy to me, i just don't think he's so good some aussie players would say he was really good and i would get harasses if i asked them on a chat site here, so i asked you guys

I like Joe. He seems like a low key, cool and friendly guy without too many EGO issues.

LMFAO at OP berating Joe Hachem and calling him one hit wonder. I'm not a fan of Joe Hachem but to call him a one-hit wonder? Let me ask people in this thread who thinks of him as one-hit wonder. What have you done?
Joe Hachem
2005 WSOP Main Event champ.
2006 WPT Champ
2006 - 2nd in WSOP $2500 Short-handed NLHE, 4th in WSOP $2500 PLHE, cashed in 2006 WSOP Main Event finished 238th out of 8000 players.
2009 - WSOP Main Event, finished 103rd out of roughly 6500 players

He's far from one-hit wonder. But even if he was, such as Chris Moneymaker and Jamie Gold, who cares? Meanwhile, ask yourself, what have you done? Winning a tournament at your local casino for $40-$100 buy-in tournament for $1k-$2k or online microstakes tournament for few hundred dollars? Winning few thousand dollars off some microstakes fish?

I would love to be one-hit wonder with millions of dollars in winnings. It would definitely beat working two jobs in an attempt to break 6-figure income.

Tom Dwan would LOVE to get those bracelets and be where Joe Hachem is. I've heard he's lost prop bets in the past because he wanted to win a WSOP bracelet and had prop bet that he will but failed although he was only one place short from achieving it since he was a runner-up.
