I've recently moved from low stakes ($5 and $10) sit and go's to higher stake ones, not because I was doing well, but because I was doing poorly - i'd finished out of money 5 straight times. I've actually been more successful - in 4 goes, won $100 comp, won $30 comp, would have won $50 comp but for outside distraction, and blew out on $30 comp. I play a lot better because of increased risk, and find that most opponents are ultra-tight, and can be bluffed more successfully.

Has anyone else had same experience? Obviously the opposite of what I expected (though i'm aware it's a very small sample).

No doubt that the higher stakes, which carry higher risk, are played more conservatively. This is one of the reasons I'm not a big fan of freerolls, no risk = loose play. My first foray into online poker a year ago ended badly as I moved up to fast. Ran a $50 deposit into over $500 playing the .25/.50 and .50/1.00 limit tables in about 3 weeks. Thought to myself that I'm ready to move up. Moved to the 3/6 and 5/10 tables and was broke in a week.

I guess the advice I'm offering is that players at the higher stakes take the game VERY seriously and you have to be ready to take these folks on. The highest I'll play is the .50/1 limit tables and the $20 SNGs as these meet my risk/reward quotient...

I certainly agree re Freerolls. I played one yesterday, and totally lost all enthusiasm after a 10 mins or so. Wasn't motivated by final prize, and ending out just going all in with rubbish.
I know high stakes SNG are where sharks hunt, but there are also a number of fish (on Noble Poker, I see the same 2 or 3 people play almost every game, and they're hopeless). I have seen a couple of players who are obviously superior, but when I played $30 yesterday and got to last 3, I certainly think I took over and dominated (maybe it was just the cards?). I'm definatley going to take it easy though, as can go broke in a hurry!

Patience is certainly a virtue and it's a good idea to take it slow. I'm also very wary of some games and tables with the same 2 or 3 people all the time. I don't know how often it happens but it would not be hard to "tag team" a table. Let's see, 2 or 3 buddies join a table, get on their cell phones, and try to milk the rest. No sure how often this happens but I keep a watchful eye out for this. I suspect there are a lot of sharks at the mid-limit tables that wouldn't have a qualm about doing something like this. Whenever I'm on a table where it just seems "to friendly" between a couple of players, I generally head for the exit...

You will find that your ROI (return of investment) will decrease dramatically at the higher levels compared to the shorter levels over a long period of time.

4 of 5 sit-n-gos are definately not enough to signify what you expected profits will be.

This number may sound high, but in order to come up with an accurate amount per SNG you will make and how successful you will be, you need to play OVER 500 SNGs at a certain level.

I play micro SNGs often, this is how I built up from $5.50 to $120 on ACR. I prefer $3 buyin but also play $1.50 buyin. I have played at least 50 and cashed in 67% of them (I play tight early and loose later, just ABC poker no HUD). Am I ready to move up to $10 buyins? I am afraid my bankroll may be too small... Maybe wait until over $200 before moving up? What are some of the highest stakes you all have played for SNGs? I prefer them to cash games, much more simple to master.

Low stakes vs High stakes

One persons low stake game may be a high stake game to someone else. Really depends on your financial situation. Personally I think a $10 buy in is a high stake game to me lol.. Can't really say how someone should play their game depending on the stakes. Just be patient and consistent and pay attention to how others at the table play then regardless of the stakes you should win more than you lose.

If i play a high stake game, which for me is anything above 15$, I tend to concentrate more, take fewer risks and play more conservatively. I've had more success playing hi stake games, my best win being the 27$ hi lo knockout tournament, but I don't like the risk of it so generally stick to my 2$ buy ins. If i lose I'm not too fussed were as if I started to lose 30$at a time I would be very annoyed with myself.
