hey so heres my story. i built a really really large (well, $1000 is large for me) bankroll from $50. then got cocky and lost it all. went through some major tilt periods where i kept losing. then i read some books started over agian recently. i built back up to about $450 with good bankroll management. i then got cocky again and almost all of it. im down to about $60 but iv lost confidence in myself. i was thinking of depositing $50 again and building it back up. what do you guys think?

do you think its worth it? bty i love playing poker but i would like to know what you guys would do in my position. thanks

You might want to check a book called "The Poker Mind Set" It can help you identify all the different ways you tilt so that you can deal with them in the future.

Ok i just want to say your not alone but you must learn to control the impulse to sit with it all. My friend has the same problem and after losing a lot i sometimes get the urge to sit with it all. but you must learn to control the urges to do it. you should not make anymore deposits. to learn control you should build your roll from nothing (freerolls) until you have control and you know you have control. you said you have 60 bucks left so why would you need to make another deposit? because your thinking about sitting with it all. bad bad bad idea. read about bankroll management dont ever and i mean ever sit with all your money every real rounder knows the cardinal rule ALWAYS LEAVE YOURSELF OUTS

Take some time off.
I know that whenever I take time off from poker (not usually by choice or because of tilt reasons but because of other committments) I always come back to the game refreshed and energized. I seem to play alot better and enjoy the game more as it is less of the same old grind. So in your spot my advice would be to go do something else you really like doing with your time for a week or two and then come back to the felt.

I've lost my whole roll too, you'll lose it when you flop the nut straight and then lose to a flush or a full house.

I love online poker, but I'm getting killed on hands that I'm actually a 70/30 favorite in. When this happens routinely, you really have to wonder about the validity of online poker.

I've lost hands lately where I have a person dominated, they're drawing thinner than ice and hit. I'll I can say is keep your head up and make a decision about whether you want to continue online or go to the casino's. I'm considering just playing live from now on. When you're a 2-1 favorite and continue to lose, it's easy to say adios. Sorry to get off topic but it sounds like you've run into some horrendous beats...

Try being a 90%+ favorite and getting busted three times in the space of about two and a half hours. I would put up the history but not logged into holdem manager.

Had ak vs qq - catch a king on the flop, he goes all in, I call; he catches a queen on the river

10 7 vs kk - I catch two pair on the flop, realise he has an overpair, pretty much goes all in on the turn (board isnt paired) he catches a king on the river

78 vs aa - flop a straight (two flush cards) he goes all in; I call - he catches two more flush cards to give him the nut flush.

Sigh - having a break from poker for a bit

1. You were behind in all the hands preflop.

2. Why did you feel the need to highjack this thread with your 'bad' beat stories?

As for OP, you made some mistakes in the past with BR. Thats ok, it happens to everyone. You obviously have the skills to make profits, so try it again. I'm sure you could do it.

If you feel like tilting......

Try playing games with yourself.......within your roll of course.

Say, tonight I'm going to log in X amount of hands and play to the best of my ability regardless of results....

Or, I'm going to play in X amount of SNGs and play to the best of my ability again, regardless of results.....

The temptation of money is a big one and every player has done what you have......it's a learning lesson. But I think when you seperate yourself from the money, and truly focus in on playing ABC TAG poker, you will benefit from the more you do it. WHy waste all that hard work by trying to get lucky and gamble?

Also, try playing for a week or two without looking at your total in your account...........and never play if you don't feel like it.

If you've done it before with good roll management, you can do it again.

I have been where you are, only I did it three times before I wised up. Now I am playing within my BR limits and loving it. Bad beats don't bug me as much as they used to, 'cause I know I can withstand them.

Never, ever have your entire BR on the table. One bad beat and you have to redeposit. Do not play tired, drunk, distracted, etc... make sure you are focused while you are playing.

Don't chase after your losses by playing higher stakes. It only leads to trouble. Listen to the voice of experience. It takes time to build up a bankroll and there are no short cuts. Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress.

started 3 weeks ago on pokerstars with a br of 50$ hadnt played for a year but 2 my surprise a cuople days later i had about 1000.
earned at the 12$ sng`s 180 entrants then i went to a tourny with a 109$dollar buy-in (again to my suprise i turned 8 place there so won 580$ there)im not a rich man so a 109$ buy-in was pretty exiting for me and i must say i loved it!it was like a 5 hour emotion BOMB!!but like i said im not rich so i went back to the 12$ buy-ins and occasionally a 22$ buy in 180 entrants sng and as a result of that i now have a br of ......... 0$ !!!
when i looked at my stats i thought i knew what id done wrong ive played like 130 tourny's between 14 -28 of oktober sometimes i start playin in the morning and in the middle of the night i log off (i just love playing the game)
but when i loose money im playin extra tryin to win it back and if i win money im playin extra because i wanna win more (im a greedy bastard)
i think for myself this is the reason (or at least one of them)why i still dont have a meaningfull BR because i am truely a GREAT player(lol)are there more players btw who think of themselves they play to much?
for my upcoming deposit ive got a gameplan and that is to look on monday what tourney`s run on theusday (and so on) and select only one or two big tourny`s where i can chase the big(ger) money and 1or 2 180 sng`s where i can easily build my BR for the bigger tourny`s thats about it hop its gonna work for me if it doesnt il dont stop playin il just have to find another gameplan ;)
